Departmental Overview
EECS is the largest Department on the UC Berkeley campus consisting of over 130 faculty, adjunct, active emeriti and PIR appointments, over 3,000 undergraduates between the College of Engineering and Letters and Science, more than 700 graduate students, and 65 staff members. The EECS Center for Student Affairs (CSA) provides a centralized function that serves the needs of students, faculty, and staff in meeting the academic mission of teaching and research from student recruitment and admissions through graduation and alum relations.
Under the direction of the Director of Undergraduate Affairs and working closely with CS Scheduling officer, the position involves overseeing and executing all student enrollments for computer science courses at the undergraduate and graduate levels. This includes management of course waitlists and enrollments as is consistent with the EECS department's enrollment policies. This position also may assists with the daily schedule of CS Division's teaching and conference rooms, and may execute room requests from various parties. The incumbent may also serve as a backup advisor for L&S CS undergraduate students with common questions.
This is a part-time (50% FTE), 3-year contract appointment with the possiblitly of extension and/or conversion to career.

Responsibilities

Enrollment Management:
Collaborates closely with the Course Scheduler (CS) and Department Chair, faculty and other departments, to ensure students' progress through course sequences, avoiding conflicts, and ensuring compliance with campus-wide policies.
Executes enrollment policies by processing waitlists and answering student queries regarding enrollment questions and issues. Using judgment and discretion, independently obtains classrooms for courses taking into account the requirements and restrictions of the Campus Scheduling Office, past enrollment trends, instructor preferences, equipment and facility needs, department and campus needs. Consults with Campus Scheduling Office and instructors on issues regarding obtaining appropriate classrooms and advises faculty and senior level manager on options. Works with other departments to set up cross-listed and room-shared courses. Consults with and advises faculty scheduler on student and department needs.
Collects, analyzes, and provides statistics on CS enrollment trends to department management.
In collaboration with the CS Scheduler, advises and recommends new enrollment policies to faculty in order to ensure clarity and consistency in enrollment planning. Communicates policy broadly to students using webpages, social media and one-on-one advising. Manages CS student enrollment for efficient use of classroom space and resources, and ensures students are enrolled based upon established priorities. Sets up enrollment limits, seat reservations, and other course restrictions.
Room Scheduling:
Maintain daily schedule of all CS Division teaching and conference rooms. Trains student employee to fill one-time room requests and serves as primary back-up when student employee is not available. Responsible for training staff on system for times when additional back up is needed.

Special Student Programs Oversight:
Within an academic department/school/college provides, and makes recommendations for the improvement of enrollment management and the creation and review of courses offered for both divisions (EECS and Computer Science).
Serves as the point person for COCI Proposals. Provides project management for new course proposals, serves as liaison with the Campus COCI Analyst and faculty. Works with Department leadership, UC Extension and campus partners to improve relevant business processes. Advises faculty on departmental/school/college and university policies and procedures. Advises prospective and current students in Special Student Programs on course selection, troubleshooting issues as needed.
Recruitment and Admissions:
Plans and implements outreach programs with specifically targeted institutions; advises prospective applicants on necessary academic preparation; appropriateness of program as it pertains to the prospective applicant's goals; utilizing in-depth knowledge of the organization's enrollment criteria, screens applicants for course enrollment; evaluates domestic and international transcripts for course eligibility; assists with student recruitment visits to Berkeley.
25% Academic Advising:
Reviews students' progress and advises students and faculty on requirements for degree/program completion; identifies students with progression problems and recommends interventions; devises curriculum planning in collaboration with chair/dean and faculty, and with other departments.
Holds dedicated weekly and drop-in advising appointments and provides advising via email. Provides 'tactical' advising to students regarding course enrollments and administrative actions students can take to increase the likelihood of course enrollment. Works with student organizations.
As back up to Undergraduate Advisors, provides advice and assistance to students on academic and degree progress and major requirements; assists students in determining a major, alternative academic options, resolve scheduling conflicts, and similar issues.
Collaborates with colleagues on retention initiatives.
In consultation with the Director of Undergraduate Affairs, identifies and refers for resolution intricate student issues/grievances such as grade disputes, personal crises, mental health concerns, DSP concerns, and non-admissions to the major.
10% Events:
Assist with planning and implementing complex, high-visibility student events, such as commencement and Cal Day.

This range takes into account the wide range of factors that are considered in making compensation decisions including but not limited to experience, skills, knowledge, abilities, education, licensure and certifications, analysis of internal equity, and other business and organizational needs. It is not typical for an individual to be offered a salary at or near the top of the range for a position. Salary offers are determined based on final candidate qualifications and experience.
The budgeted salary or hourly range that the University reasonably expects to pay for this position is $27.06 to $36.83 hourly. This is a 50% FTE, 3-year contract position eligible for benefits.
