Summary:
This position provides executive direction of a clinic staffed with 6+ therapists tasked with providing individual, couples and group therapeutic counseling services for students. The Director consults with faculty and staff regarding mental health concerns of students and oversees the development and delivery of educational and preventive programs on common mental health issues among college students. The Director is also responsible for crisis management, oversight of budget, and ensuring the counseling center is in compliance with all legal and ethical obligations related to the delivery of mental health services.
Minimum Qualifications Required:
Education required to ensure success in this position:
• Master’s in Counseling, Counseling Psychology, Social Work, or related field. Terminal degree in psychology preferred (PhD or PsyD).
• License or license eligible in the state of Kentucky.
Experience required to ensure success in this position:
• 5+ years of post-doctoral experience providing mental health services.
• 3+ years in a supervisory or administrative position within a mental health setting.
• Counseling experience in a college setting preferred.
• Experience serving diverse populations, i.e. racial, LGBTQIA+, religious, and cultural, etc.
• Sensitivity to working with students with limited resources, including financial.
• Experience supervising associate therapists.
• Knowledge of electronic records and data management programs for counseling centers.
• Demonstrated ability to effectively collaborate with campus partners while maintaining highest professional standards regarding patient confidentiality.

• Provide executive direction for Counseling Services reporting to Vice President of Student Life.
• Administrative and supervisory experience to manage a dynamic staff of 6+ mental health therapists, practicum students, a psychiatric nurse practitioner, and an administrative assistant within a clinic with high demand for services.
• Demonstrated ability to manage operations budget and grant funding budgets.
• Superior written, verbal, and presentation skills in response to requests to present to wide range of campus constituents, including students, faculty and staff members, Administrative Counsel, and Board of Trustees.
• Strong therapeutic counseling skills in individual, couples and group counseling.
• Knowledge of and adherence to legal and ethical standards of licensing boards.
• Outreach presentation skills.
• Strong interpersonal skills, including intercultural sensitivity.
• Establish and maintain collaborative partnerships within the campus and local communities.
• Ability to effectively manage mental health crises with sensitivity.
• Demonstrated abilities to develop course material and effectively teach undergraduates studdents (possibility of teaching one course per academic year).
License, certification, or registration necessary:
• Valid Kentucky License in good standing to practice mental health therapy.
• Licensed to supervise associate therapists and practicum students.
Physical requirements:
• Ability to navigate campus/public buildings and grounds.
• Visual acuity necessary for computer work.
Environmental conditions:
• Busy clinical office environment with interruptions and noise due to high demand for services including both scheduled
appointments and walk-in services provided to students and interactions with staff and faculty.
Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment:
• Standard office equipment: computer, fax, phone, etc.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

• Provides leadership and management of counseling services to meet ever-increasing demand for services while providing quality care.
• Supervises a dynamic staff of therapists, practicum students, and Administrative Assistant.
• Provides administrative oversight for policy and procedures development in the area of counseling in conformance with best practice and all relevant laws and regulations.
• Provides individual, group, and couples therapeutic counseling (maximum 20% of job responsibility)
• Oversees budget.
• Collaborates with appropriate others in the development and offering of educational and preventive student development programs with an emphasis on mental health.
• Develops and implements procedures for crisis intervention and after-hours and holiday coverage as needed.
• Develops and monitors systems and protocols for appropriate documentation of services.
• Provides advice and consultation upon request from faculty and staff.
• Serves on campus committees and task forces as appropriate.
• Work collaboratively with related areas in policy implementation, crisis intervention and program development, e.g., Residential Life, College Health Services, Student Life, Academic Services, Public Safety.
• Works with College Health Services and community agencies and practitioners, as appropriate, to provide referral and crisis intervention counseling-related services.
• In support of Berea College’s great commitments this position requires student supervision.
