Position Summary: The Digital Media Specialist is responsible for the internal and external coordination of the design, development, creation and implementation of digital media and online technologies as well as instructional recordings for instruction and special projects at WCC, as specifically applied to the online classroom. This includes managing all aspects of multimedia and video production. Essential Job Duties and Responsibilities: • Work with faculty and colleagues to identify opportunities, help them select, conceptualize, design, develop and implement digital technologies that support learning objectives, enhance student experiences and improve cost efficiency. • Assist with the development of instructional strategies and assessments that incorporate multimedia as a form of student engagement or submission. • Work with instructional design staff for planning, production, editing and publishing of digital and audio assets. • Research, assess and experiment with emerging digital learning technologies (such as immersive simulations, virtual labs, AR/VR, mapping tools, digital community platforms, virtual bulletin boards, game design and gamification) and disseminate information about these to faculty, staff and administration. • Research and assess social media and mobile applications and their impact on student learning, engagement, and success in online learning. • Serve as the primary liaison for the creation and production of all instructional recordings including managing and maintaining release forms. • Provides technical knowledge on digital imaging software programs and color management; assists in resolving software compatibility issues. • Support conversion and archiving of all multimedia and video assets, including integration with Blackboard or other Learning Management System. • Serve as administrator for the Yuja video hosting platform, providing maintenance and technical knowledge to end users and maintaining communication with Yuja staff. • Responsible for maintenance and inventory control of all production equipment. • Assist with advising and training WCC staff and faculty on instructional recording methodologies such as, but not limited to, screen capture, video and multimedia used for on-campus and online classrooms. • Collaborate with Executive Director to evaluate best practices for online community building and facilitate testing, implementation, and/or training of technologies in this area. • Develop strategies to reduce digital literacy gaps in online learning. • Create instructional documentations, training materials for students within the course design, and tutorials for faculty on how to leverage video, audio, and digital media, including accessibility, privacy, and user ability. • Develop and administer a quality assurance process for evaluating academic and digital technologies. • Organize and supervise the copyright, permission and licensing procedures to ensure compliance to ADA, copyright, and licenses. • Perform other duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: • Bachelor’s degree or higher in multimedia, video, and audio design plus three years of experience in creating and managing digital technologies. • An in-depth knowledge of multimedia cross-platform computer hardware and software, especially image and sound editing applications, courseware, web authoring tools, digital community platforms, simulations, and AR/VR. • Proficiency in the use of Microsoft Office Suite, graphics programs such as Photoshop and Illustrator. • Proficiency using non-linear video editing software and video production experience. • Strong knowledge of Camtasia/Peek or other screen capturing software. • Familiarity working with video file formats and conversions, including streaming video. • Strong organization, problem solving and decision-making abilities with capability to work independently or collaboratively. • A working knowledge of graphic design principles with ability to conceptualize compelling visuals to support video and multimedia projects. • Demonstrated ability to create instructional documents and provide trainings on digital technology tools and their purpose in online learning. • Ability to train faculty on best practices for video creation, synchronous learning, and compliance/student privacy. • Demonstrated ability to supervise, manage, and work effectively with timelines and deadlines. • Working knowledge of instructional design and online course development. • Strong knowledge of digital literacy and its impact on student success in higher education. • Ability to communicate effectively in higher education setting in both traditional and online environments with customer service focus. • Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing to communicate with individuals from diverse backgrounds. • Excellent analytical, problem-solving and decision-making skills. • Experience using Blackboard or another learning management system. • Demonstrated leadership skills are essential.
