About the Opportunity
The Assistant Director of Student Retention and Engagement will work with the Director and other staff members to encourage and support undergraduate student engagement in the College of Engineering. Through collaboration with the Associate Dean for Undergraduate Education, Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion, Assistant Dean of Cooperative Education and Assistant Dean for Undergraduate Academic Affairs, data collection and reporting will serve as a foundation to identify impediments to academic progress, and framework for decision-making to support continued engagement and maintaining a high level of retention.
Data related to retention will examine student academic progress, graduation rates, departmental challenges to student progress, university withdrawals and change of major within the university. The Assistant Director will also gather data for the Director and Associate Dean in relation to assessing teaching quality and student satisfaction. The position requires collecting and analyzing retention data within the college and university. The Assistant Director will be responsible for administration of surveys and responding to data requests to support admissions and enrollment decisions.
3-5 years of relevant experience is required including experience in data analysis for student progress, enrollment management and student engagement. Experience in higher education, student affairs/services.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including expertise in presenting publicly and speaking on behalf of a college.
Ability to identify data needed to drive decision-making and to lead and support diverse initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Student Success Assessment:
Work effectively with the COE undergraduate advising team and Assistant Dean, Along with First year faculty, non-COE faculty representatives and others involved in delivery of COE curriculum to gather data and information on student success and impediments to success to improve curriculum and programs for student progress.
Retention Strategy Development:
Innovate on new approaches and strategies to retain students in COE. Analyze retention from first to second year, first to third year and graduation. Look for best practices of keeping students both in the college and in the university. Analyze retention of different strata of students such as transfer, NUin and NUBound, Women, URM, and other to look for patterns and concerns. Work with Associate Dean of DEI where applicable.
Teaching Assessment:
Assess teaching quality in COE and non-COE units providing service courses to COE students (chemistry, math, physics, English, bio) as it affects student retention and student experiences in the College. Work with Associate Dean and Department Chairs for continuous improvement in teaching.
Data Analysis & Reporting:
Work with data from numerous sources in the university to extract data for various requestors in UG for their collaboration on student success and progress. Working with UDS, ARC in COE, Navigate, registrar and other data sources to be able to quickly gather and present relevant reports to requestors.
Student Engagement Support :
Work with Director of Student Engagement, Enrollment Management and Retention on all connected elements, such as supporting enrollment and yield strategies, engagement approaches, and other events and activities as needed. Work with Associate Dean for DEI on programs such as Summer Bridge as appropriate, particularly related to engagement and retention and high impact practices.
