Ohio Wesleyan University seeks a motivated, innovative Registrar focused on student success to help support this important institutional work. The Registrar will make a difference in the life of college students by investing in helping students meet their academic goals.
The Registrar will create a vision, lead strategic planning, ensure proper record management, and identify ways to reduce barriers to graduation. The Registrar will work directly with faculty, staff, and students on a daily basis with a service-oriented mindset. This position requires a positive attitude, especially in fast-paced situations, with an eye towards improving processes while being data-informed to support the best liberal arts education possible.
Duties and Responsibilities
Strategic Registrar Operations
Identifies and implements innovative practices to better serve students, with a focus on continuous improvement, student recruitment, and retention
Oversees the functions of an efficient, student-focused Registrar office
Identifies solutions to support new areas of operation for the University
Supervises the office staff including their professional development
Plans, develops, manages the Registrar's Office budget and created the Academic Calendar
Confers with faculty/students/parents regarding challenges with scheduling, registration, grading, etc.
Interprets and administers academic policies and manages all aspects of student appeals for exceptions to academic policies (late add/drop, dismissal, reinstatement, etc.)
Serves as the lead administrative representative for the faculty Academic Status
Committee and provides support to the curriculum committees
Works closely with student affairs, enrollment, finance, and other key areas supporting student success
Partners with our consortia the Ohio 5 and Great Lakes College Association (GLCA) to collaborate and follow higher education best practice and trends
Scheduling and Student Registration
Collaborates with the Associate Provost, department chairs, other faculty and staff to develop a class schedule minimizing barriers to student access
Optimizes and manages the student registration process and improves student satisfaction
Schedules classroom space according to student-centered policies
Data Innovation and Stewardship
Works with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to develop and maintain classification procedures for student data that enable a data-informed culture
Interprets and assures compliance with Federal, State, and University policies and regulations regarding institutional data
Develops, implements, and communicates record retention policies
Works closely with the Office of Institutional Effectiveness to use data in strategic ways to support the University’s diversity, equity, and inclusion efforts
Student Records and Compliance
Ensures student education records are maintained in an accurate and secure manner
Serves as the university FERPA Compliance Officer ensuring policies are compliant
Oversees the collection, processing, and reporting of student grades and transcripts
Oversees National Student Clearinghouse reporting and veteran's benefits administration
Assists with transcript evaluation and transfer of credit processes
Convocation and Commencement
Participates in programming student milestones such as Commencement and Convocation
Oversees the degree clearance process, deferral processes, and prepares diplomas and certificates
Oversees special awards and honorary degrees as directed by the President or Provost
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
Experience working in a Registrar Office or closely allied office
Working knowledge of Google or Microsoft productivity products
Ability to work in a fast-paced environment and provide consistent and kind interactions with students, faculty, staff, and parents
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with diverse student, faculty, and staff
Sound professional judgment, flexibility, willingness to learn and implement new technologies, and the highest standards of professional ethics and integrity
Willingness to engage with Ohio Wesleyan University’s mission and aims
