Salary Range: $120,000 - $140,000 per annum

Bank Street College, Graduate School of Education is seeking a full-time chair for the Education Leadership Department. Located in New York City, Bank Street College is a small, vibrant institution, passionately committed to social justice and devoted to improving the education of children. We educate children, the educators who teach them in all settings, parents, school leaders, and those who make policy. The College is a rich source of innovative ideas and practices for all who care about children and their education.
Bank Street’s Graduate School of Education is a leader in progressive, anti-racist, student-centered education and provides outstanding online master's degree programs through close integration of academic study and field-based experiences. Bank Street’s academic programs include: coursework, supervised fieldwork and advisement (SFW/A), and a culminating integrative activity. The Graduate School faculty is made up of scholars and practitioners, researchers, and teachers.
The Leadership Department includes the following online programs:

Leaders in Education Apprenticeship Program (in partnership with the NYCDOE)
Yonkers Urban Leadership Academy (in partnership with the Yonkers School District)
Responsibilities:
The chair is responsible for the overall functioning of the Leadership Department and supporting the work within the Graduate school. This work includes:
Faculty and Student Support
Plan and facilitate the Leadership Department meetings with faculty (including full-time faculty, adjuncts, and advisors)
Plan and facilitate the Leadership Design Team meetings full-time faculty to support the work and the direction of the department
Meet regularly with program directors (faculty who oversee each program)
Work with faculty to assess the effectiveness of each leadership program
Work with faculty on revising programs and developing new programs
Supervise leadership faculty, including full-time and adjunct faculty, and provide support around professional learning and development
Consult with faculty and Graduate School leadership around complex student issues
Develop the course schedule for each semester
Hire adjunct faculty in collaboration with program directors
Attend open houses to support the recruitment of new leadership students
Partnership Programs
Partner with the NYCDOE on the Leaders in Education Apprenticeship Program (which provides a master’s degree and school building leader (SBL) certification) and Aspiring Superintendent Academy (which provides school district leader certification). Bank Street provides curriculum support, instructional support, granting of the degree, and certification. Chair meets regularly with the program director and NYCDOE leadership.
Partner with the Yonkers Public Schools on the Yonkers Urban Leadership Academy program (which provides a master’s degree and SBL certification). Bank Street provides curriculum support, instructional support, granting of the degree, and certification. Chair meets regularly with the program director and Yonkers School District leadership.
Partner with BOCES on the Future School Leaders Academy (which provides a master’s degree and SBL certification). Bank Street provides curriculum support, instructional support, granting of the degree, and certification. The chair attends the advisory board meetings, cohort planning and implementation meetings, as well as regular meetings with BOCES leadership.
Support the development of a new leadership program in collaboration with New Leaders, which is beginning this year.
Collaborate on the exploration, development, and launch of new partnership programs to expand the reach of Bank Street and increase enrollment.
Graduate School and College Leadership
Participate as a key member of the Graduate School leadership and serve as a thought partner to the Dean, Associate Deans, and other key leaders within the Graduate School, including the Teaching and Learning Chair, Student Services, and Admissions and Student Certification Supports.
Serve as a key member of the leadership of the broader College, including participating in various College-wide events, meetings, and activities and collaborating with other leaders in Children’s Programs and the Education Center on projects and initiatives in furtherance of the broader organization.
Qualifications:
Doctorate in Educational Leadership, Education, Curriculum and Instruction or other related field
Previous administrative experience as a chair or at a comparable level in higher education
Strong leadership background in pre-K-12 education with a preference for experience as a district superintendent or school principal
Commitment to progressive education and expanding its reach within New York City and nationally
Collaborative, relational orientation to leadership, with strong skills as a facilitator, community builder, and communicator with internal and external constituents
Commitment to equity and social justice – in practice, programmatic work, and/or scholarship.
Demonstrated success or potential success for graduate-level teaching, preferably in educational administration/leadership (in-person and online, preferred)
Experience in effective supervision of faculty and staff
Strong communication and interpersonal skills
Ability to enhance the department’s visibility within and outside the College
Understanding of state requirements for program approval and certification of students
Knowledge of current leadership standards
Active commitment to diversity in hiring of faculty
Ability to work closely with faculty in program and curricular redesign
Maintain an active role in service activities related to the program, the Graduate School, and profession
Experience working with cohort delivery models
Record of scholarly writing and research is desirable
