Job Description Boston University Virtual is a new unit at Boston University focused on the creation of high-quality online degree and certificate programs. We are seeking an Assistant Vice President, Digital Architecture & Technology Platforms to lead, design, and implement an overarching vision and direction for our online technology and platforms at BU Virtual and within the broader enterprise at Boston University.
Reporting to the Vice President and Associate Provost of BU Virtual, the AVP will serve as the technology and architecture leader at BU Virtual, with responsibility for translating the envisioned experience into the optimal technology platforms, supplemental tools, integrations, EdTech tools, analytics and reporting across the full ecosystem of online delivery from recruitment, admissions and enrollment to the learning experience and student services. This leader will liaise closely with Boston University's Information Services & Technology organization, as well as the schools and colleges at BU to ensure a cohesive end-to-end experience that supports our growing online portfolio and leverages the best-of-breed technologies in place at BU.
The successful candidate is a digital technology architect and EdTech leader, accountable for maximizing the impact of technology to provide seamless digital experiences for our students, faculty and partners. They will be well versed in the EdTech and online education landscape, best practices and emerging trends with a strong understanding of how to apply innovative approaches to deliver on the mission and objectives of BU Virtual.
This is a unique opportunity to be part of a new unit at BU which is in the process of building and launching a portfolio of in-demand, high-quality online programs that increase reach and accessibility to new learner segments.
Primary Responsibilities
Lead BU Virtual's online technology direction with the goal of optimizing and continuously improving the online learning tech stack, ensuring integration with other systems, platforms and processes to ensure a seamless and holistic user experience.
In partnership with BU Information Services & Technology, create a global enterprise-wide digital user experience roadmap that supports initiatives across the BU Virtual online learning landscape and ecosystem, working with enterprise systems such as enrollment, CRM, marketing, and learning management.
Lead user experience (UX) requirements definition, software solution selection and implementation for all systems and applications that support the online student and faculty journey from admissions and enrollment through to graduation. The goal is to ensure an intuitive and engaging experience that leverages the best of our array of tools and technologies.
Collaborate with academic leaders, learning designers, program management, IT and student support teams to understand the business, platform and integration requirements across enterprise systems, and define and execute an end-to-end digital experience that promotes user engagement, quality and satisfaction at scale.
Build the digital user experience as a best practice, staying ahead of industry trends and challenges, and deliver experiences that will ensure a sustainable and scalable pathway to growth. This scope includes degree programs as well as alternative credentials and workforce development programs.
Define requirements and collaborate on efficient solutions to enable the array of business and administrative processes that support students and faculty in the BU Virtual programs.
Liaise with residential university operations and leverage tools and technologies that can enhance and improve both online, hybrid and residential experiences.
Ensure that experience design approaches and processes support an agile, distributed model with diverse teams and stakeholders, and systems that are at varying stages of maturity.
Create space for innovation, experimentation, and piloting in order to advance on the mission of BU Virtual.
Develop measurable analytics and metrics, and infuse the priorities and UX strategy with data-driven initiatives that inform continuing and future direction.
Create wireframes, user flows and prototypes, as needed, to communicate UX design direction and enterprise system workflows to stakeholders.
Manage a small team of professionals as well as vendors and partners across a matrix of individuals and organizations.
This position is eligible for up to two days/week remote work.

A Bachelors degree in related field; specializations in computer science, product management, IT or related field are desired; Masters degree a plus and/or equivalent work experience.
12+ years of experience in software product management and UX design, preferably in an enterprise SAAS platform environment; higher education experience is desired.
8+ years of demonstrated leadership with a proven track record of success in technology leadership, with experience in managing and implementing technology solutions that effectively support student and faculty needs.
An experienced digital architect and technology evangelist who has deep experience in configuring systems and technologies to enable an engaging, intuitive user experience.
Strong understanding of the full edtech and online ecosystem - with extensive experience leading and managing digital platforms that enable successful online program delivery. Experience with Blackboard or other leading learning management systems. Salesforce, Oracle Campus Solutions,, and common edtech tools is strongly desired.
Experience in evaluating and managing technology vendors, seasoned at measuring digital performance, analytics and user experience.
Demonstrable success in creating, launching, scaling, and maintaining digital products and platforms.
Strong collaboration and stakeholder management across a variety of functions.
Ability to scope and structure complex problems and apply a range of technology and tools.
A change agent and strategic systems thinker accustomed to working in a complex matrixed environment.
Excellent writing and verbal communication skills to influence teams and drive clarity and focus on complex problems.
