The Assistant Director of Student Accommodations reports to the Director of Student Disability Services and serves as a member of the SDS leadership team. The Assistant Director (AD) assists the Director of Student Disability Services in administering highly specialized support for students with disabilities at the New School. The Assistant Director assists in ensuring compliance with Section 504 of the Rehabilitation Act of 1973 and the Americans with Disabilities Act (1990) and the revisions under the Americans with Disabilities Act. This position works collaboratively with students, faculty, and administration to support a campus population of 10,000 students.

RESPONSIBILITIES
Serves as a member of the Student Disability Services leadership team and assists in the development, implementation, and assessment of departmentsâ™ missions and priorities.
Manages an active caseload of students with disabilities which includes maintaining accurate and confidential records for each student related to eligibility, provision of services, and accommodation decisions and recommendations.
Serves as the SDS liaison to the Associate Director of Student Equity, Access, and Title IX in the provision of services that support academic success, including the digitizing and/or captioning classroom materials and texts, adjusting classroom locations, and coordinating transcription and/or interpretation services for students, and the related processing of contracts and invoices.
Serves as primary liaison between SDS and Housing and Residential Education to coordinate all housing accommodation requests
Serves as a liaison to a variety of university departments at the New School, such as Academic & Career Advising, University Learning Center, Student Support and Advocacy, etc. to provide support around approved accommodations and coordinate student access.
Assists in the evaluation and implementation of all university-wide policy and procedure reviews, as well as assessment efforts pertaining to access and student disability services.
Recruits/hires, and provides direct supervision and ongoing development for SDSâ™ undergraduate and graduate student employees.
Oversee SDS test scheduling and administration practices, with support from the graduate assistant
Creates, implements and promotes educational materials and awareness regarding physical access, and sensitivity for students with disabilities.
Management and oversight of Accommodate, SDSâ™ database management system, in support of Accommodation distribution across campus
Collect/Create SDS data to provide to campus partners and external agencies to ensure legal compliance and institutional awareness.
Actively participates in creating and fostering a culture of inclusion: possesses and develops in self and others, intercultural competency skills that promote a culture of equity, inclusion, social justice, and community engagement.Â
Participates in University-wide events, including Orientation, Welcome Week, Family Weekend, and Commencement.
Serves on university-wide committees and task forces.
Services as a referral resource for faculty, staff, students, and parents.
Performs other duties as assigned.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
Masterâ™s degree and two (2) to four (4) years of progressive experience in higher education.
Demonstrated experience working with disability/access services within an educational setting (preferably college or university).
Understanding of emerging issues in higher education, particularly in Access and Disability Services.
Working knowledge of Symplicityâ™s Accommodate, or another Disability Services Data Management System
Applied understanding of student development and multiple identity theories.Â
Demonstrated intercultural competence, and a continuing commitment to advance equity, inclusion, and social justice practices in support of a diverse community.
Impeccable integrity and ability to handle complex, sensitive, and confidential issues.
Ability to build trusting relationships with all constituencies within the university community.
Experience in developing and facilitating professional training for students, faculty, and staff. Â
Strong organizational and program development skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.

Experience of emerging issues in higher education, particularly in student services.
Experience with Accommodate, StarfishÂ
Familiarity with Canvas, Banner, TableauÂ
Previous experience at an urban and/or art-focused institution.Â
WORK MODE
Hybrid/Split - Employees hired for this position have regularly scheduled, consistent percentage of time on campus (ex 1-4x/week) and also work some of the time remotely
