The Department of Service and Civic Engagement invites applications for the Director, Service & Civic Engagement. Reporting to the Associate Dean of Students, this individual will provide vision, leadership and management for a comprehensive campus program which promotes student involvement in volunteerism and social change.
Specifically, the individual will be responsible for:
providing campus leadership for a collaborative campus civic action plan promoting civic engagement and social responsibility;
providing programmatic structure to expand Rider student engagement in community service, understanding community needs, and developing skills to advocate for social change;
providing administrative oversight of program planning that engages students in service activities in support of Engaged Learning, providing reflection opportunities for students engaged in service to promote learning and understanding and verifying their service as serving the Engaged Learning requirements;
overseeing opportunities for students to become aware of and engage with other aspects of civic engagement (e.g.: voting, political awareness and advocacy);
providing direct oversight of the Bonner scholars program, 4-year service learning project for select students;
providing oversight for the operation of the Rider University Resource Pantry; and
providing direct supervision of one graduate assistant.
Position Requirements:
Bachelor's degree required. Master preferred in counseling, human service, or related field with 3-5 years of demonstrated experience working with student volunteers in campus or community agencies.
Demonstrated organizational and communication skills
Demonstrated understanding of multicultural competency, desire, and ability to work with diverse student populations.
A conceptual understanding of development and service learning theory.
A demonstrated understanding of diverse learning styles.
Demonstrated ability to work effectively with faculty.
A conceptual understanding of community development.
Knowledge in working with Netscape, Word, Excel and HTML authoring tools.
