Position Summary:
The mission of the Office of Student Transitions & Family Programs is to provide incoming students and their families with a set of common shared experiences and information to set the tone for student academic success, personal growth, leadership development, student responsibility, and meaningful connections. This area will also work to enhance the student learning experience at UNC Asheville through ongoing and newly emerging programs, initiatives and responsibilities that support New Student Orientation, Retention, Family Programs, Transfer Student Programs, and Special population programs. By intentionally engaging students in interactive and diverse opportunities, the Assistant Director of Student Transitions and Family Programs position is dedicated to facilitating the students' transition to university life.
The Assistant Director works collaboratively with the Director and the Associate Director of Student Transitions and Family Programs to deliver programs and services to support our students transitioning to college. The Assistant Director will manage programmatic and outreach activities within the Office of Student Transitions and Family Programs. The employee is responsible for ongoing development of our New Student Orientation programs including our Summer Welcome Days and 4-day EmBark Orientation program.
This position will supervise, train, and develop student staff and communicates and interprets program policy and procedures. The Assistant Director provides customer service to students, parents, families and other campus constituents. The Assistant Director helps maintain business accounts and records for the Office of Student Transitions and Family Programs.
Minimum Education/Experience/Skill :
Master's degree in Higher Education and Student Affairs or related field and 1 year of related experience in higher education, student affairs, or a related field. May consider a Bachelor's degree with 3 years of related work experience in Orientation, Transition programs, and Student Affairs.
Preferred Education/Experience/Skill :
Working knowledge of student learning and student development theory and practice as well as trends/needs/issues of First-Year and Transfer Students.
Experience implementing programming or large-scale events.
Advising/Supervision experience leading undergraduate student staff.
Ability to work in a high paced setting with distractions;
Significant attention to detail and solid written and oral communications skills; ability to problem solve with discretion;
Sound judgment and professionalism;
Ability to work independently and interdependently.
