Position Summary
Under the general supervision of the AVP for IT Service & Support, the College of Engineering's Computer Support Staff is responsible for ensuring that the College's information technology infrastructure, systems and software are fully operational, secure, properly maintained and supported.
The Information Technology Consultant will have several responsibilities/duties that include, but are not limited to:
Computer & user support
System Administration
Engineering software support & consultation
Classroom support and administration
Help desk support & training
Other duties as assigned
This is a full-time (1.0 time-base), benefits eligible, permanent/probationary position. This position is designated exempt under FLSA and is not eligible for overtime compensation. Standard SDSU work hours are Monday - Friday, 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but may vary based on operational needs.
The individual hired into this role will work on campus at SDSU in San Diego.
Department Summary
The College of Engineering is one of seven major institutional units of San Diego State University. The primary objective of the College is to prepare students for a professional career in engineering. The College's Fall 2022 full-time faculty numbered 72, including the Dean. The number of part-time faculty varies from semester to semester. There are an additional 29 full time staff that support college operations.
The Dean's office in the College of Engineering is responsible for all administrative and managerial functions of the College, which include overseeing the operations of the College's four departments, coordinating work of the College's committees, managing budgetary and financial matters, providing faculty and staff support, working with other university departments to integrate College of Engineering functions into Academic Affairs and the University's systems, providing student services, and managing the development activities for the benefit of the College and its students.

Education and Experience
To enter this classification, a basic foundation of knowledge and skills in technical information systems and application program packages is a prerequisite. This foundation would normally be obtained through a bachelor's degree in computer science, information systems, educational technology, communications, or related fields, or similar certified coursework in applicable fields of study. Foundation knowledge and skills for the Information Technology Consultant, depending on the nature of the position assignment, may include working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms, reference database systems and sources, and training methods and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.
Key Qualifications
Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering or equivalent training and applied experience.
Minimum three years of experience providing information technology desktop support services.
At least 3 years working in an academic computer lab environment.
Working knowledge of common software application packages, equipment platforms (Windows and Apple Mac), reference database systems and sources, training methods, and a basic understanding of networks, data communication, and multimedia systems.
Experience providing system upgrades and/or installing new software.
Proficiency in desktop imaging management and system virtualization.
Ability to provide superior, consistent, and timely customer service within strict policy guidelines.
Production level experience with Windows and Linux Server Operating Systems.
Working knowledge of professional engineering software such as Ansys, Autodesk, COMSOL, Labview and Solidworks.
Working knowledge of Virtual technologies including VMware
Experience working with Linux Web Servers
Proficiency using standard software packages to develop and maintain web pages.
Compensation and Benefits
Starting salary upon appointment is not expected to exceed $4,818 per month.
Salary placement is determined by the education, experience, and qualifications the candidate brings to the position, internal equity, and the hiring department's fiscal resources.

CSU Classification Salary Range: $4,678 - $11,547 per month.
