The Center for Integrative Studies in General Science (CISGS) at Michigan State University is excited to invite applications for a dedicated educator to join our team to teach biological science courses to non-science majors in both lecture and laboratory settings. Michigan State University is committed to strategically increasing its capacity to provide national leadership in science education scholarship by building our long-standing record of excellence in Scientific Literacy, curriculum development, and research. The search committee is especially interested in candidates who, through their teaching, and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community. Our goal as related to this position is to continue to provide outstanding science teaching of non-STEM undergraduate students in our Integrated Studies in Biological Science (ISB) lecture and lab programming.
The initial appointment, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2023, will be for one academic year (9 months) with the expectation of continuing renewal based on satisfactory performance. Current individuals in fixed term positions in CISGS have an average of 15 years in service. Responsibilities for this position include: 1) teaching ISB lecture and lab courses, 2) assisting in the coordination of the ISB lab programs, and 3) curriculum development for lecture programming, specifically:
Teach a full course load of biological science courses for non-science majors, including lecture and laboratory components, course preparation, and assessment.
Coordinate the ISB 208L lab program through collaboration with other lab coordinators, as well as mentorship for Graduate Teaching Assistants.
Foster an inclusive and welcoming lecture and laboratory classroom that respects the diverse backgrounds and experiences of students.
Develop and implement effective teaching strategies that engage students and support their learning and understanding of biological science concepts.
Participate in departmental meetings, student advising, and other academic and administrative activities as required.

Minimum Requirements
Master's degree or higher in physical science, science education, or closely related field(s).
Experience using instructional technologies as curricular resources.
Ability to collaborate in the development and improvement of student-centered curricular resources that include the competencies of scientific and quantitative literacy.
Proven commitment to increasing diversity, equity, and inclusion in the classroom and in the academic community.
Ability to effectively communicate complex scientific concepts.

Evidence of successful teaching experience in higher education.
Experience coordinating and mentoring in a lab teaching environment.
