Temporary Residence Director, PSSP

To best support the program, PSSP hires residential staff to oversee a maximum of 200 incoming freshmen students and includes two Residence Hall Directors (RHD), two Residence Directors (RD), approximately 10-15 Residential Advisors (RA), along with 20+ live-in Program Mentors (PM).

This temporary Residence Director (RD) position will manage the summer RAs (Resident Advisors) through opportunities to engage in supervision, direct student support, crisis management, conduct, housing operations, and most aspects of a residential experience in an accelerated timeframe to assure a safe, enjoyable experience for the students. During the summer, incumbents will gain practical experience in campus life, develop leadership abilities, and hone supervision skills, in addition to many other transferable skills that prepare them to excel in any future position in higher education.

This on-campus, live-in position requires that staff display professionalism, maturity, positive role modeling behavior, and good judgement at all times. Successful candidates should expect a fast-paced environment where they will be challenged to learn quickly and adapt to varying priorities based on what is occurring within the program. A successful RD will possess strong customer services skills and a solid work ethic to professionally handle confidential information, effectively problem solve, make informed decisions, enforce policies and mediate potential conflict when dealing with staff, student and families, This supervisory position with rotating responsibilities with the other RD, including on-call responsibilities, to successfully meet the needs of the students and adequately respond to potential crises, including physical and mental health crises.

Additionally, the RD role reports to the full-time RHD on campus as well as indirectly to the Summer Programs Assistant Director and PSSP Director. There is a high level of teamwork and collaboration across the University supporting a diverse staff and student body and with regular guidance provided to facilitate learning during this internship experience.

Program Details:

The program will run from June 5, 2023, through August 5, 2023. Selected candidates will be expected to be on campus and complete orientation prior to the start of the program. Compensation includes an $8,000 stipend to be paid out equally over the course of the program as well as a summer meal plan and housing.

Required Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree required (May 2023 graduates may apply)
• One year or more of full-time experience working residence life in a college or university setting required.
• Must be willing and able to works long and varied working hours including evening, weekends, holidays and on-call.
• Ability to live and work on-campus during the entirety of the program

Preferred Qualifications

• Current enrollment or master's degree in Student Affairs, Higher Ed. Administration, or related program strongly preferred.
• Prior experience working with high school populations and/or experience working with academically motivated students, preferably in an intensive residential setting.
• Excellent organizational, interpersonal, and communication skills.
• Evidence of cultural competence and inclusiveness; sensitivity to and understanding of diverse perspectives that students and staff bring to their work, including those of academic, socioeconomic, culture, race and ethnicity, gender, sexuality, and intersectional identities
• Working knowledge of agencies and services on campus in order to refer students.
