Wittenberg is seeking a Success Advisor. The Success Advisor provides proactive, holistic advising (e.g., psycho-social, academic, life-skills, social, and professional) to predominantly first-year Wittenberg students as they explore their academic interests along with curricular and co-curricular opportunities available at Wittenberg University. Success Advisors focus on: academic advising; assisting students with the transition to college; navigation of university processes; social, academic, and wellness support; and career/vocation exploration in the context of a liberal arts education. Success Advisors serve as members of the COMPASS: Sweet Success Center team and work closely with the Office of the Provost. Additionally, this role collaborates with academic departments, faculty, staff, and service offices across the institution.
Responsibilities:
Provides holistic advising services to an undergraduate student caseload of predominantly first-year students; Supports the student transition to college, academic advising, and educational and career development needs of assigned caseload. Coaching areas include but are not limited to: time management, goal setting, course registration, major exploration, academic skill development, social engagement, wellness, and career exploration. This is done in collaboration with the First Year Seminar advisor.
Provides individual academic advising and coaching to students which includes assisting with academic planning, connecting advisees with appropriate university resources, and collaborating with first-year seminar faculty instructors to support advisees.
Engages in purposeful discussion with students to learn about course performance, interests and social engagement; assesses students' qualifications for entry into specific courses or majors; and gauges student adjustment to the University.
Creates a welcoming environment that is inclusive of students from diverse backgrounds.
Assists students in understanding the structure and requirements of Wittenberg's general education curriculum and connections to academic departments' majors/minors/co-curricular programs. Support students in navigating the Self-Service portal used for tracking graduation requirements and registration for courses.
Serves as the point-person for assigned to incoming students during the summer prior to enrollment and serves as a student's academic advisor from the point of deposit through the declaration of a major. Responsibilities will include assistance with incoming student processes and course selection during the summer prior to enrollment; participation in Destination Witt (Orientation) and Welcome Week.
Aids students in navigating University processes including but not limited to registration, student accounts, financial aid, housing, student conduct, and other.
Responsible for thorough record-keeping. Serves as a liaison between students and academic departments and other offices so that the student understands courses/experiences required for specific majors and pre-professional programs and in navigating University processes or policies. This work is done in collaboration with the First Year Seminar advisor.
Sets data metrics, evaluates programs, and assesses outcomes for student caseload.
Provides advice and counsel regarding viable academic, personal, and career options.
Respond to queries from students, faculty, staff, and parents/families as appropriate (within the parameters of FERPA).
Provides referrals for campus and academic resources for additional support.
Participate in appropriate staff development opportunities, serve on campus, community, and professional association committees, appropriately keep supervisors abreast of matters sensitive in nature, and other responsibilities as assigned.
Other duties as assigned. Availability to work nights and weekends as needed.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree or equivalent required in education, student services or related field and
Excellent relationship-building skills required
1-3 years' experience with academic or personal development coaching - preferred experience with college student populations or college advising
Demonstrated understanding of the value of a liberal arts curriculum
Experience working with populations of diverse backgrounds
Experience with academic skill building is preferred
Case management or proven data collection experience
