About Break Through Tech
Break Through Tech works at the intersection of academia and industry to propel more underrepresented women into higher education and careers in tech -- with a particular emphasis on Black, Latinx, Indigenous, and first- generation college going women and non-binary students.
Hosted by Cornell Tech, Break Through Tech AI is the new program from Break Through Tech on a mission to credential and fast-track undergraduate women into careers in the fastest-growing areas of tech: data science, machine learning, and artificial intelligence. Developed with industry leaders, the Break Through Tech AI program includes three high-level components that are considered critical for increasing the competitiveness and marketability of students pursuing AI/ML engineering roles: (1) skills-based training, (2) industry-relevant portfolios, and (3) mentorship, career coaching, and job placement support. Over the next four years, the Break Through AI program will expand nationwide to foster a diverse next generation of AI leaders who will build AI technologies that are fairer and more representative of our society.
About the Role
Cornell Tech seeks a Program Operations Coordinator to support the management of daily program logistics and activities for Break Through Tech's Virtual Site Program, a new program with a national impact that is on track to grow exponentially, with a goal of increasing from 60 students in 2022 to 500+ students in 2024. This role will be responsible for ensuring that all program components run smoothly, including 1) Industry Project Challenges, 2) Mentoring, and 3) Internship and Job Placements. The Program Operations Coordinator will take initiative to create, evaluate, and maintain deliverables that contribute to program design and planning, which includes recommending and implementing operational and system enhancements. Other responsibilities include project management, vendor and contract management, marketing and communications, budget management and goal alignment, as well as data and reporting. The Program Operations Coordinator will also provide some administrative support to the Virtual Site Program team and leadership through email communications, research, maintaining records, gathering information, upating presentations and templates, calendar management, communicating with students, and logistics management.
The Program Operations Coordinator will collaborate with the Student Recruitment Lead and Career Services Lead, as well as the Industry Account Manager and AI Studio Lead to ensure an excellent experience for all our program stakeholders from both Academic and Industry. In addition, the Program Operations Coordinator will support students throughout each 18-mo program cycle, including data tracking, logistics, and ad hoc support. The Program Operations Coordinator will report into the Director of the Virtual Site Program and will work closely with the Break Through Tech AI Program Virtual team.
The successful candidate for this role will have a proven record of strong project management skills plus experience in virtual event planning and creating excellent online user experiences. The Program Operations Coordinator will use data and metrics to identify and implement continual process changes to improve outcomes and will employ rapid responses and troubleshooting for operational issues as they arise. This is a mostly internally facing role with responsibility for systems administration for program technology tools including Zoom registration, breakout rooms, recordings, user management, community Slack set-up, etc.
Essential functions include:
- Coordinate the logistics and activities for the Break Through Tech AI Virtual Program - 50%
- Systems Administration and Data Tracking - 30%
- Support the operations of the AI Team - 20%
This is a full-time, benefits-eligible 3-year term position with the possibility of renewal. This position requires occasional work on evenings and weekends, particularly during the academic year. The responsibilities may be completed remotely or hybrid. Working remotely within the United States, aside from travel, is allowable with an Eastern Time Zone daily availability. Please note: there will be several in-person team meetings per year held at our NYC campus (all travel related expenses will be covered).
Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor's degree with 3 -5 years of experience or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
- Passion for diversity in tech, education, and social impact.
- Work in either an academic or corporate setting coordinating or managing student services, event planning, program coordination, or recruitment.
- Must have strong organizational and project management skills with demonstrated experience meeting milestones and deadlines over a sustained period of time.
- Must have strong facilitation and public-speaking skills.
- Has a demonstrated track record of using data and metrics to drive decisions and measure performance; has a strong attention to detail and demonstrates utmost data integrity.
- Is highly flexible and adaptable in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Proven ability for taking initiative to find solutions, make decisions, and navigate ambiguity
- Ability to communicate with, work effectively with, and maintain a positive rapport with all team members.
- Strong interpersonal skills and relationship building qualities are essential in order to support internal team-building.
