Summary Position As a member of the Division of Student Life and the Student Involvement team, the Assistant Directors of Student Involvement assist in leading efforts that engage students in meaningful campus involvement and align their work to advance our strategic plans. These positions support student success by mentoring and coaching through the development of rich relationships. The assistant directors work directly with student leaders and collaborate across the university to provide community and leadership development opportunities that enhance the student experience. As a member of the Student Involvement team, the assistant directors are responsible for serving as active members of the staff in presence and in communication, maintaining a high level of professionalism, and completing various administrative tasks that support the daily operations of the department.
In addition, this assistant directors are responsible for working closely with student leaders by focusing on the development of rich mentoring relationships. These positions also work with the other Student Involvement Assistant Directors by creating an environment that engages students in transformative co-curricular learning experiences and promotes positive growth and development. The assistant directors enhance the student experience by fostering greater alignment between university values and the activities and actions of student organizations and the fraternities and sororities on campus. Specifically, Position 1 provides direct advisement to the Interfraternity Council and serves as a chapter mentor to the IFC fraternities. Position 1 also implements fan engagement and school spirit initiatives and activities in partnership with Athletics, including student tailgating. This assistant director engages all fraternity and sorority members in campus-wide programs, including campus traditions, athletic events, and late-night events. Position 2 provides direct advisement to the National Pan-Hellenic Council and serves as a chapter mentor to the NPHC chapters and the culturally-based fraternities and sororities. This position is also responsible for implementing late night, campus-wide programming and provides direction and support for Late Night Elon. The assistant director for Position 2 provides collaborative support in the development of quality, diverse programs that are welcoming to all students and enhances student life at Elon.

Education Requirements Completed bachelors degree required. Masters degree in higher education, college student personnel, counseling, or related field is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIESStudent Involvement Team
Serve as an active member of the Student Involvement staff, contribute to a relationship-rich environment that fosters student growth and success, and support broader department programs and events (i.e. new student orientation, fall and spring organization fairs, formal recruitment and intake processes, and Homecoming)
Assist with and attend selected contracted events and programs hosted within the department
Monitor budgets totaling in excess of $250,000; guide spending and secure funding for program initiatives as needed
Negotiate, review, and request contracts with agents/students to plan events
Assist in aligning department assessment and reporting mechanisms with the strategic planning of the university, Division of Student Life, and Student Involvement
Develop and maintain supportive campus partnerships with colleagues and university departments
Meet with the Director of Student Involvement (Position 1)/Associate Director of Student Involvement (Position 2) on a regular basis, actively participate in team meetings, and assume additional responsibilities within the scope of the position as assigned by the director.
Advising and Mentorship
Develop a relationship-rich culture by serving as a chapter mentor to the members and student leaders of the Interfraternity Council chapters (Position 1)/National Pan-Hellenic Council chpaters and culturally-based chapters (Position 2)
Advise and support the Interfraternity Council (Position 1)/National Pan-Hellenic Council (Position 2), empowering students to take ownership of their community and experience
Develop and maintain relationships with fraternity and sorority community constituents including inter/national headquarters staff, advisory leadership, faculty/staff advisors, alumni, and families
Foster relationships with students that model care for the individual, inclusive excellence, personal and peer accountability, and integration with their campus experience
Promote a culture of respect with and among student leaders that exemplifies the Elon Honor Code, high ethic of care and positive bystander behavior
Programming and Development (Position 1)
Coordinate and implement the Student Tailgating Program and school spirit initiatives, including a partnership with Athletics and the Phoenix Phanatics
Implement comprehensive marketing plans for fan engagement programming and manage all publicity strategies to create campus wide knowledge of events
Facilitate opportunities that encourage deeper collaborative work among student organizations and within the fraternity and sorority community, including individual chapters and governing councils
Model and promote inclusive excellence and the celebration of diverse identities, experiences, and perspectives between and among fraternities and sororities
Coordinate council officer attendance at regional and/or national student leadership development conferences, including registration, travel, and accommodations
Serve as primary contact and reviewer for IFC chapter event requests and approvals
Provide guidance/training and connect students to campus resources to help ensure fraternity and sorority events follow established University policies, procedures, and practices
Programming and Development (Position 2)
Work collaboratively with university programs, departments, and student organizations to provide well-considered student-centered late-night campus programming
Identify opportunities for organization leaders to assist in the development of the late-night calendar and integrate the fraternity and sorority community into campus late night and weekend programming initiatives
Implement comprehensive marketing plans for late night programming and manage all publicity strategies to create campus wide knowledge of events
Plan and implement late night programming offered during New Student Orientation, in collaboration with university partners
Serve as primary contact and reviewer of NPHC chapter event requests and approvals
Provide guidance/training and connect students to campus resources to help ensure fraternity and sorority events follow established University policies, procedures, and practices
Division of Student Life
Positively represent Student Involvement, the Division of Student Life, and Elon University in all communications, presentations, and campus involvement
Collaborate with division and university partners to enhance the student experience
Assist with campus-wide special events, convocations, commencement, Family Weekend, Homecoming, opening week activities, etc.
Serve as an on-call administrator with the Student Life Emergency Response Team a few times each year
Serve on various assigned division and university committees
Education and Experience Completed masters degree in higher education, student personnel, or related field and 2-4 years of experience (including graduate assistantships/apprenticeships) working with:
