Temporary Document Conversion Assistant

Student Disability Services (SDS) works in partnership with Cornell faculty, staff, and students to ensure that all aspects of student life are accessible, equitable, and inclusive of individuals with disabilities. SDS establishes and disseminates criteria for disability services, meets with students to discuss access needs, receives and stores confidential disability documentation to support a student's eligibility for disability services and accommodations, collaborates with faculty and staff regarding essential course and/or program requirements and appropriate reasonable accommodations. SDS provides campus leadership of diversity efforts that promote disability equity and inclusion.
The Temporary Document Conversion Assistant works as part of the Accessible Media Resource Center (AMRC) team to help arrange and implement critical accommodations for students with print-based disabilities. This position serves as a point-of-contact for specific students' document conversion needs. As part of the AMRC team, this position assists with the conversion of documents into accessible formats and with the oversight of document conversion workflow by student employees in the department.

- Ability to convert documents into a variety of accessible formats materials to meet the diverse disability needs of students
- Ability to understand how different assistive technologies are used to access or interact with documents and how to design documents in ways to be accessible to those various technologies
Required Qualifications:
- Formal training beyond a HS Diploma of 1-2 years
- Ability to learn new software systems and technical processes quickly.
- Experience in managing records in various tracking systems.
- Experience with Microsoft Office software such as Word, Excel, and PowerPoint
- High level of sensitivity, judgment, independent decision-making, and problem-solving, including a heightened appreciation for confidentiality
- Attention to detail
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience working with a college-age population and in a university setting, particularly with knowledge of Cornell systems and programs.
- Experience working with individuals with disabilities.
- Knowledge of assistive technology and software
- Experience converting documents into different accessible formats
- Experience with workflow tracking software
