With the anticipated growth of our Middle School program, The Carmel School seeks to hire a Middle School Math teacher (Math 6 to Pre-Algebra) to join its incredible team of compassionate, enthusiastic, and knowledgeable faculty and staff for the 2023-24 school year. This teaching position is responsible for cultivating a vibrant, safe, and engaging student culture while instructing students in accordance with the school's mission.

At The Carmel School, the MS Math teacher will be expected to:
help each student develop competence in his/her skills
motivate each student to attain and develop necessary 21st-century skills toward thinking critically, asking higher-level questions, and collaborating with others to solve problems
encourage each student to understand the rules and functions of the classroom and each learning environment in a safe and effective manner
foster students' engagement and inquiry in their studies
champion the role of independent schools in the greater Richmond/Fredericksburg area

Summary of Essential Position Functions:
Teaches core subject material, utilizing the appropriate curriculum for each
Passionate about developing students’ STEM-related competencies
Supports the mission of the school and abides by the employee handbook
Develops lesson plans and appropriate instructional aids to emphasize inquiry and current best practices
Demonstrates using models; experiments with available technology methods and other standard or teacher-prepared instructional aids
Provides opportunities when needed for individualized and small group instruction to adapt the curriculum to the needs of each pupil
Designs and differentiates learning activities that will relate content and skills acquisition to students' experiences and the physical world
Establishes and maintains standards of student behavior to provide an orderly, productive classroom environment
Utilizes both formative and summative assessments to assess and evaluate each pupil’s progress in his/her acquisition of content knowledge and skills regularly
Communicates regularly and effectively with school stakeholders about students' progress
Selects and acquires school-approved texts, instructional aids, and supplies; maintains necessary inventory records
Collaborates with school administrators and faculty to cultivate and ensure a mission-appropriate school culture
Reports to the Head of the Secondary
Collaborates with teachers and coaches on relevant issues/topics (classroom management, counseling concerns, instructional coaching, etc.)
Possess effective oral and written communication skills
Proficient in information technology
Demonstrates confidentiality and professionalism with all stakeholders
Please also note that a Bachelor's degree is required, a Master's degree is strongly preferred, and certification in (content area) is preferred. Prior experience with teaching is a must! All employees must complete a criminal background check upon their official start date.
