Job Description Summary The Graduate Academic Services and Engagement office is committed to working with students throughout their academic career to help them attain goals that they have set for themselves. The office also provides support for graduate student engagement by working with the Graduate Student Government Association, student organizations, Orientation and other programming specifically for graduate students.
Graduate student Academic Advisors provide a safe, non-judgmental, and comfortable advising atmosphere where students are encouraged to grow intellectually and personally. Academic Advisors assist students in all areas of the curriculum, including academic planning, understanding graduate program requirements and course selection.
Essential Duties
Under the direction of the Director of Graduate Academic Services, provide in-depth academic counseling and advising to all Bentley graduate students while maintaining accurate records of all sessions.
Acquire in-depth knowledge in all areas of the graduate curriculum, institutional policies, and formal processes as well as areas of academic advising.
Onboard new students' academic records, assist students with the registration process, and execute all aspects of advising support for students during registration and participating in programming or specialized advising events.
Demonstrate an understanding of current educational and developmental challenges for graduate students including, international students, students from underrepresented populations and students returning to education after a long hiatus.
Maintain collaborative and supportive relationships with a variety of offices on campus.
Other Duties
Participate in campus events such as Admitted Student Day, Graduate Programs Open House, Discover Bentley, and Graduate Orientation.
Minimum Qualifications
Master's degree (preferably in an education related field) plus 1 to 3 years ofrelevantexperience is required.
Strong interpersonal communication (oral and written) and organizational skills.
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple tasks and set priorities while working both independently and as part of a team.
Able to work in a fast-paced environment of constant change and variety.
Strong attention to detail and knowledge of the university curriculum is required.
An aptitude for technology and ability to learn new technology is essential for the position.Proficiency with Microsoft Office 365. Knowledge of various higher education technology such as, Workday (Student), EAB Navigate or other student information and advising systems preferred.
Experience and commitment to working with a diverse student population.
Experience with social, digital and print media also preferred
Work Environment
Position hours require the advisor to work 9:30 - 5:30 three to five days per week in order to provide services to graduate students who mainly attend classes in the evening. Occasional evening and weekend work is required
Requires some long periods of sitting or standing and use of computer within a typical office setting
