Assistant Director - Health Promotion and Education
Job Summary: The Department of Campus Recreation and Wellness Assistant Director for Health Promotion and Education serves on the departments senior leadership team and reports to the Director. This position is responsible for providing the campus community with health information and resources, cultivating healthy attitudes and behaviors, and fostering a culture that values and supports healthy living and a healthy community. The Ignatian framework of Cura Personalis will guide this educator in student interventions, âœcare for the whole person.â This educator will work collaboratively across the Division of Student Development and broader University community to create supportive environments for learning and student success, based on sound theory and evidenced-informed practice of college health promotion.
Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Directly supervise the departments Fitness Coordinator, Wellness Coordinator and Graduate Assistant for Wellness, to include hiring, training, assigning work, ongoing performance evaluation, recognition, and development
Indirectly oversee, manage, and develop 10+ part-time staff and 20+ student staff within the areas of group fitness, personal training, and peer education
Plan, implement, and evaluate community-based health promotion and education initiatives for students with a primary focus on alcohol and other drug education, bystander intervention, sexual assault prevention, mental health, suicide prevention, and personal wellness
Develop and facilitate interactive trainings, programs, and resources for students, staff, and faculty of the University on a variety of health-related topicsÂ
Incorporate diversity, equity, inclusion and social justice concepts and principles into ecological health promotion efforts
Develop strategic plans, goals, and measurable objectivesÂ
Align efforts with the Student Well-Being Task Force recommendations to advance a culture of well-being for all students
Collaborate with Partners in Prevention, Missouris higher education substance misuse consortium dedicated to creating healthy and safe college campuses
Situate health education within the context of the Universitys mission and student learning outcomes
Direct the development, implementation, and analysis of periodic health and environmental assessments for students that (1) provide baseline measures and follow-up data, (2) identify needs and priorities, (3) evaluate effectiveness of interventions, and (4) track trends in attitudes, knowledge, perceptions, and behaviors, including the implementation of the annual Missouri Assessment of College Health Behaviors (MACHB) survey to students
Write and submit quarterly and annual reports on program progress and outcomes, including developing proposals for enhancements or changes as appropriate, including the submission of the annual Alcohol and Other Drug report as part of the Drug Free Schools and Colleges Act
Consult with and develop collaborative programs and working relationships with numerous constituencies on campus, including but not limited to, Student Health, University Counseling Center, Housing and Residence Life, Student Involvement Center, Athletics, Campus Ministry, Student Responsibility and Community Standards, Student Government Association, and other student organizations
Serve as the primary administrative contact for our online Campus Prevention Network through Vector Solutions (Learning Management System which allows the University to launch and manage online learning modules that support our commitment to safety, well-being, inclusion and promoting a thriving campus community)
Help create and monitor department finances, including annual budgets, and gift and program fundsÂ
Review and approve department procurement using various university payment methods
Serve in an on-call capacity as an emergency contact for the department
Assist and represent the Director as needed
Represent the department on a variety of campus and community committees and task forces
Perform special projects and other duties as assigned
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:Â

Knowledge of organizational theory and change management
Knowledge of social norming
Knowledge in health content areas relevant to college students, including but not limited to alcohol and other drug use and abuse prevention, fitness, nutrition, relationship development, sexual health, sexual assault, and mental health challenges
Ability to design health promotion initiatives and health supporting environments guided by a cultural of inclusion, respect, and equity
Ability to supervise, mentor, and advise professional staff, student staff, and student organizations
Capacity to problem solve
Experience applying research to health strategies
Excellence with program development
Excellence with demonstrated public speaking and group facilitation

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Education, Collegiate Recreation, Wellness or closely related field
Two (2) or more years of full-time work experience in college health promotion, recreation, or closely related fieldÂ
Current Red Cross Adult and Pediatric First Aid, CPR, and AED and certification or willingness to obtain within the first 90 days of employment
Current Mental Health First Aid certification or willingness to obtain within the first 90 days of employment
Experience managing professional and/or student staff
Demonstrate knowledge of diversity, equity, and inclusion approaches and their connections to well-being
Ability and willingness to occasionally work weekends and evenings as needed
Preferred Qualifications:
Masters degree in Public Health, Health Promotion, Health Education, Collegiate Recreation, Wellness or closely related field
Four (4) or more years of full-time work experience in college health promotion, recreation or closely related fieldÂ
Leadership experience with consistently progressive responsibilities in a university or recreational setting
Participation in professional organizations, research, and scholarship, and/or professional development such as association leadership or presentations
Ability to identify grant opportunities and innovative funding sources for health promotion initiatives Â
Certified Health Education Specialist (CHES) or Certified in Public Health (CPH)Â
Leadership experience in business operations including supervision, strategic planning, budgeting, procurement, and financial management.
