The University of Maryland, University Career Center is in search of an Associate Director to lead our Employer Relations & External Partnerships unit. This is a full-time, regular, exempt position.
About the Position: The Associate Director, Employer Relations & External Partnerships, will reimagine and implement a best in-class employer engagement program and elevate UMD as a top source of talent for local, national and global opportunities. The Associate Director will implement policies, programs and initiatives to strategically increase connections, across all industries, for UMD students. A member of the Senior Staff leadership team, the Associate Director contributes to the overall strategic vision for the University Career Center & The President’s Promise (Center). The Associate Director provides executive leadership and supervision for both employer relations and external relations teams, and cultivates Center partnerships with career service offices across campus. This position reports to the Director.
Strategic Vision for Employer Engagement: The Associate Director sets the strategic vision for employers seeking to build or maintain a multi-faceted relationship with the University. The Associate Director uses student data and industry trends to execute an employer development strategy and set goals to ensure equitable access to opportunities for all students. Oversees all aspects of employer relations, employer programs, and industry-specific initiatives, ensuring a robust and innovative approach to student-employer connections. Develops policies and procedures to assist organizations with recruitment strategies, employer branding on campus, and ROI assessment, with a particular lens to historically marginalized student populations. The Associate Director utilizes the most current technologies, collaborates with internal campus stakeholders and external partners, is knowledgeable about job market trends and industry growth, and represents the Center on-campus, locally and nationally.
Industry & External Partnerships: The Associate Director will exercise overall responsibility for coordination, growth, and integration of the Center’s multi-faceted external services. Provides executive leadership for the Center’s external relations functions including oversight for alumni relations, liaisons to selected non-embedded school/college relationships, marketing and communications, events, and front desk client services. Serves as the primary partner to career service offices across campus for fairs, networking events and other employer engagement activities. Works in concert with divisional and university development colleagues to manage and contribute to the growth of the Center’s corporate sponsorship efforts.
Leadership & Supervision: The Associate Director supervises, mentors and evaluates a diverse team of professionals responsible for facilitating connections with constituents that yield opportunities for all UMD students. Holds budgetary responsibility over funding allocated for employer engagement, recruiting activities, campus partnerships, events and marketing functions. Provides oversight and administrative leadership for Center career management system, serving as project management lead for continual platform integration, constituent awareness, staff/student/employer training and on-going maintenance. The Associate Director serves as a member of the senior staff team, consulting with the Director on strategic planning, resource allocation and development, partnerships with and support of campus career services, unit assessment, and new initiatives to ensure a best in-class operation.
Education: Bachelors degree in human resources, counseling, student affairs, or business-related field is required.
Experience: 8-10 years’ experience successfully leading a college or university-based recruiting operation and/or working in a talent-acquisition setting such as human resources or a private search firm.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:
Demonstrated leadership and successful supervisory experience.
Ability to effectively build relationships and effectively collaborate with campus and external constituents, balancing competing priorities.
Preferences:
Masters Degree and 6-8 years of progressive experience.
Knowledge of campus career? ?or recruitment ??management software especially preferred.
