Veterans Upward Bound (VUB) is a federal TRIO program funded by the U.S. Department of Education, to help U.S. military veterans enter into and succeed in postsecondary school. VUB is a non-profit program serving veterans from counties surrounding Bowling Green and Fort Knox. The services provided are free for participants of the program. This is a grant funded position. Continuation is dependent upon funding/need.
OUTREACH
Organize and conduct outreach activities inviting veteran to take advantage of the services provided by Veterans Upward Bound
Collaborate with regional veterans organizations to recruit participation in VUB
Provide workshops and informational sessions/activities for veterans interested in post-secondary educational opportunities.
Collaborate with academic departments across the university providing various services for veteran participants geared toward academic success and college enrollment.
ADVISING
Assist veterans with pre-college preparation interests and activities
Academic preparation and study skills development
Career exploration and advising
College admissions and enrollment
Financial Aid, Veterans Education Benefits and FAFSA completion and scholarship advising
DATA COLLECTION AND MANAGEMENT
Maintain data for participant/grant documentation
Conduct individualized assessments on participant progress toward college enrollment
Provide reports on overall VUB progress toward grant objectives
OTHER DUTIES
Perform other related duties and participate in special projects as assigned by the director.
Collaborate and support the initiatives of the other TRIO grant funded programs as needed.
Job Requirements:
Bachelor's degree in counseling, education, student affairs, or a related field.
Strong communication and public relations experience.
Experience in working with disadvantaged (low-income, first-generation) populations.
Additional Information:
Salary Range: $38,000-$42,000
