Required Education:

Purpose: The visual arts teacher is a collaborative, experienced, and nurturing teacher who is excited to join a dedicated team working in an independent school K-12 environment. This teacher has the ability to build rapport and communicate well with students, colleagues, and parents and is flexible, adaptable and creative.
What You Will Do:
Teach Visual and Digital Arts to students in lower, middle, and upper school, to experienced and novice artists, as well as develop lesson plans and map and review curriculum.
Classes may include iPad Photography, Digital Photography, Foundations
Teach a Digital Ethics course to 9th Graders as part of the Ethics Curriculum in Upper School
Provide general supervision of students at all times in the building (including lunch and recess)
Work within the visual arts department to create a cohesive and inclusive learning environment for our students
Develop an appreciation of visual arts as well as the ability to develop portfolios to pursue further studies for your students.
Maintain an orderly classroom environment by managing materials and student projects.
Generate assignments and activities to promote learning in a creative manner
Fairly assess students both formatively and summatively and maintain a gradebook with weekly grades for middle and upper school
Write narrative quarterly comments
Reach out to students, parents and teachers in a professional and collaborative manner
Serve as a dynamic colleague and professional, collaborating with department and divisional colleagues
Contribute to and support on-going exhibitions in and out of school, creative outreach work with the wider community, Week of the Arts, After School Academy, and Family and Staff Art Nights.
Serve as a Homebase Advisory (either primary or secondary in the Middle or Upper School)
Create and Maintain the Annual Vail Mountain Yearbook
Participate in Board related events, as requested
Advocate for and ensure that diversity, inclusion, and social justice permeates the school's programs and drives its culture.
Jump in to help when your team is in need. This might include covering classes, skiing or snowshoeing with students, implementing parent and student art nights, or hopping onto a field trip that needs to be covered.

Passionate about a diverse range of visual arts including mixed media painting/drawing, 3D and 2D art, digital photography, video media, design thinking, innovative design, ..as well as a passion for teaching a range of ages

Bachelor's Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university required; advanced degree preferred
Proficient in designing effective lessons, teaching diverse learners and managing students of all ages
