Reporting to the Associate Director of Student Outreach & Support and working as part of the Student Outreach & Support team, we are seeking a Case Manager for UndergraduateStudents who will maintain high student contact and a caseload to address the needs of students who have challenges in areas such as physical or mental health, finances, family and interpersonal concerns and social adjustment that may affect their academic performance or other aspects of their JHU experience, using a variety of interventions, referrals and follow up services. Responsibilities will include student contact via regular meetings, triage, case management, and collaboration and consultation with colleagues and faculty within the Division of Student Affairs, University Administration, the Krieger School of Arts & Sciences and the Whiting School of Engineering. While strong, supportive relationships may develop with students, the Case Manager does not engage in individual therapeutic relationships.
Specific Duties & Responsibilities
Meet 1:1 with students initially and regularly to develop individual student success plans based on their unique circumstances and track their progress towards their personal and academic goals.
Collect, evaluate and record all facts pertaining to student cases that come in through Maxient online management and referrals.
Triage student cases as they come into the office and assign to case managers.
Document all information and communication in Maxient.
Formulate intervention plans in order to enhance the academic success of students.
Contact and collaborate with other University departments to expedite resolution of problems.
Provide referrals to support services within the University as well as community agencies.
Follow up and track prior cases to ensure student compliance with recommendations and adequate staff support for the student.
Collect all pertinent information for a student requesting a medical leave of absence and emergency leave of absence, making a recommendation to the Assistant Director, SOS.
Systems Management and Reporting
Maintain and monitor factual case records in a variety of electronic student record systems (Maxient, Starfish, Student Information System)
Interpret University policy regarding students and making recommendations when policy changes are needed, based on trends in data.
Prepare ad hoc reports, data requests and annual report for internal stakeholders.
Outreach, Training & Education
Assist in training and consulting with faculty, staff, students, parents, and external stakeholders on referrals.
Provide relevant training around resources and support to campus partners including, but not limited to, Campus Safety and Security, Academic Advising, Counseling Center, Health and Wellness.
Develop and distribute of appropriate marketing materials.
Participate fully in the programming sponsored by the Office of the Dean of Students, including but not limited to Orientation, Family Weekend, Senior Week, and Commencement.
Some night and weekend work required.
Special Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Demonstrated knowledge of online student tracking systems and database management.
Strong attention to detail, excellent communication skills, ability to quickly synthesize information from a variety of sources in order to make informed recommendations for the best welfare of the students.
Knowledge of current case management trends and literature preferred.
Bachelor's Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Public Health or related field.
Three years of experience in higher education or closely related setting; experience managing response to crisis situations.
Masters Degree in Education, Counseling, Social Work, Public Health or related field.
Experience working with college aged students.
Experience working in crisis situations.
Experience using Maxient and Starfish.
