Job Description:
The Student Success Advisor position provides academic advising to new entering and current students to coordinate services and maintain and communicate a solid understanding of academic and financial aid policies to assist students in achieving academic success, retention and graduation. The Student Success Advisor is also responsible for promoting a culture that supports diversity, equity and inclusion in all forms at Hennepin Technical College.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications(expected to have to enter job)
Bachelor's degree in related field
Two years of experience in higher education
Experience working with diverse populations including adult learners, high school students, communities of color and other traditionally underserved populations
Experience assessing student needs and coordinating services in an effort to retain students
Demonstrated interpersonal skills and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse colleagues and partners
Comprehensive computer and related technology skills, including web-based resources
Familiarity with academic and financial aid policies and procedures of HTC or similar institutions
Strong oral and written communication skills
Excellent organizational skills
Experience working collaboratively as part of a team and on an organization-wide basis
Possess presentation skills to effectively promote and represent the college
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
Master's Degree in student services, education or related field
Proficiency in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, and/or Oromo
Experience managing a caseload, case files, documentation of services
Familiarity with student development theory, student success and engagement research and related materials
Experience in community outreach and partnership development
Knowledge of FERPA, MN Data Practices, Higher Education and PSEO regulations
Three years of experience in higher education
