Job Description:
The Student Success Advisor position provides academic advising to new entering and current students to coordinate services and maintain and communicate a solid understanding of academic and financial aid policies to assist students in achieving academic success, retention and graduation. The Student Success Advisor is also responsible for promoting a culture that supports diversity, equity and inclusion in all forms at Hennepin Technical College.
Required Qualifications:
Minimum Qualifications (expected to have to enter job)
- Bachelor's degree in related field
- Two years of experience in higher education
- Experience working with diverse populations including adult learners, high school students, communities of color and other traditionally underserved populations
- Experience assessing student needs and coordinating services in an effort to retain students
- Demonstrated interpersonal skills and establishing and maintaining effective working relationships with diverse colleagues and partners
- Comprehensive computer and related technology skills, including web-based resources
- Familiarity with academic and financial aid policies and procedures of HTC or similar institutions
- Strong oral and written communication skills
- Excellent organizational skills
- Experience working collaboratively as part of a team and on an organization-wide basis
- Possess presentation skills to effectively promote and represent the college
Preferred Qualifications:
Preferred Qualifications (desired but not expected to have to enter job)
- Master's Degree in student services, education or related field
- Proficiency in Spanish, Hmong, Somali, and/or Oromo
- Experience managing a caseload, case files, documentation of services
- Familiarity with student development theory, student success and engagement research and related materials
- Experience in community outreach and partnership development
- Knowledge of FERPA, MN Data Practices, Higher Education and PSEO regulations
- Three years of experience in higher education
