Academy High is an independent, non-profit college preparatory day school located in Champaign-Urbana, Illinois. The school opened its doors to a pioneer class of nine students in 2017, and has grown each year, now serving sixty students in grades 9-12. The mission of Academy High is to inspire students to discover and pursue their passions; to become exceptionally well-educated, academically, and personally; and to lead lives of excellence, purpose, and joy.
Academy High seeks a qualified candidate to teach various Math offerings in the 2023-2024 school year. This position will start in August 2023.
At least a bachelor’s degree in mathematics and/or education.
At least two years of teaching experience in a high school or higher education setting.
Familiarity with national and/or state standards (Common Core; Illinois State Standards; etc.).
Desire to support student development, both in and out of the classroom.
Possess skills to work effectively with students, parents, and faculty.
Knowledge of best practices related to the role’s responsibilities.
Candidates who possess experience working with middle school, high school, and/or college aged students are encouraged to apply.
Duties and Responsibilities
Teach two to three year-long Math classes (9th-12th), potentially including but not limited to Algebra Fundamentals, Geometry, Algebra I, Algebra II/Pre-Calculus, Statistics, and/or Data Science.
Evaluate and grade student classwork, assignments, and assessments.
Use effective classroom management techniques to ensure effective learning.
Consistently communicate student progress.
Assist with Math Advisory periods, as needed.
Participate in essential school activities such as faculty meetings, student-parent-teacher conferences, student advising, club sponsorship, and support of school functions.
Collaborate effectively with departmental and teaching teams and student support service personnel.
