The College of Science and Engineering (CSE) invites nominations and applications for the position of Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs. This is a 50% appointment starting in Summer 2023. The position reports to the CSE Dean and is open to tenured full professors in the College of Science & Engineering.
The Associate Dean for Undergraduate Programs is responsible for overseeing initiatives that support, promote, and enhance the undergraduate experience within the College of Science and Engineering. Working in close collaboration with the Assistant Dean for Student Services and the Student Services Staff, the Associate Dean provides inspiration, guidance, and support to undergraduate students across CSE.
CSE Student Services (40%):
Works with the Director of Academic Advising to manage the undergraduate student experience including degree planning; summer orientations; admissions and transfer admissions
Works with the Director of Career Services on topics such as student advising; career fairs and employer events; job search resources and guidance
Works with the Director of Collegiate Life on the recruitment of freshmen and transfer students; inclusion, diversity, and equity initiatives; scholarship and awards; major collegiate events, among others
CSE Undergraduate Education (40%):
Oversees CSE 1001: First Year Experience Course, required for all new freshmen.
Coordinates program reviews of CSE academic programs with the Provost’s Office.
Chair and ex-officio voting member of the Academic Standards and Student Affairs Committee
Serves as ex-officio and non-voting member of the CSE Curriculum Committee.
Oversees the submission of Annual Progress Reports for the assessment of student learning outcomes as required by the Higher Learning Commission.
Oversees the assessment of engineering program objectives and outcomes as defined by ABET
CSE Undergraduate Affairs (20%):
Serves as a member of the CSE Dean’s Leadership Team to support and achieve CSE’s vision and strategic priorities
Coordinates with college, campus, and system leaders to set future strategic directions for Undergraduate Programs and Student Services in science and engineering.
Ensures effective and timely communication within and outside CSE regarding all matters impacting undergraduate education, including close collaboration with Directors of Undergraduate Studies and Department Heads within CSE and regular contact with the Associate Deans for Undergraduate Programs on the UMN Twin Cities Campus
Represents CSE at centrally coordinated meetings related to undergraduate education.
Represents the college in the Big Ten Plus Engineering Associate Deans Group
The successful candidate will have:
Status as a tenured faculty member in the College of Science and Engineering at the rank of professor with a strong record of activity in teaching and learning, with a commitment to the success of undergraduate students.
Knowledge of and willingness to learn more about University Undergraduate Programs and Student Services policies
Demonstrated commitment to equitable practices and inclusive environments.
Strong organizational and managerial skills along with experience managing educational programs focused on undergraduates
