DEPARTMENT OVERVIEW
The Division of Student Affairs and Success (DSAS) provides campus-wide coordination and leadership for student success programs and activities across departments, divisions, colleges, and administrative units. The Student Success and Equity portfolio of departments is a branch of DSAS focused on academic support services, advising / counseling, student life / co-curricular programming, student identity development and retention / student success initiatives. Student Success and Equity provides services to the campus community with over 17,000 undergraduate and graduate students and has over 64 career employees and 475 student staff employees operating in 8 facilities/locations. The Student Success and Equity area includes a wide array of multi-disciplinary academic and non-academic units including: Disability Resource Center (DRC), Educational Opportunity Programs (EOP), Learning Support Services, Services for Transfer and Re-entry Students (STARS), Renaissance Scholars Program, Veteran Resource Center, African American Resource and Cultural Center (AARCC), American Indian Resource Center (AIRC), Asian American/Pacific Islander Resource Center (AA/PIRC), Chicano/Latino Resource Center (El Centro), Women's Center (WC), the Lionel Cantu Queer Center (LGBTQ+), Undocumented Student Services (USS), the UCSC Hispanic Serving Institution Initiatives (HSI) grant and campus committees/programs, and the Administrative and Business team for the unit. The Student Success and Equity area includes all of the units and over 125 state, federal, student service fees and gift fund sources and an annual operating budget of nearly $14 million dollars.
JOB SUMMARY
Under the direction of the Associate Vice Chancellor for Student Success and Equity (AVC SSE), the incumbent uses skills as a seasoned, experienced professional with a full understanding of analytical practices, policies and procedures; researches, analyzes and develops solutions to a wide range of issues. The incumbent will also support the AVC SSE with administrative and clerical support, including calendaring, coordinating travel, and meeting/event logistical support for the AVC SSE. Demonstrates good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions. Primarily deals with policies, programs and proposals which are complex in nature and diverse in scope. Develops new programs, policies or procedures for possible implementation. The Project and Policy Analyst will address problems of diverse scope that will require demonstrating good judgment in selecting methods and techniques for obtaining solutions.
APPOINTMENT INFORMATION
Budgeted Salary: $85,000 - $92,000 / Annually. Salary commensurate with skills, qualifications and experience. Under California law, the University of California, Santa Cruz is required to provide a reasonable estimate of the compensation range for this role and should not offer a salary above the posted range. Applies theory and puts into practice with an in-depth understanding of concepts related to analysis of data and systems pertaining to complex projects, policies, initiatives, processes, and or functions on behalf of the AVC SSE, requiring facilitation and collaboration with representation across the division and the campus.
Engages in the research process and implementation of special projects under the direction / in collaboration with the AVC SSE.
Records and follows up on action items and projects from campus committees and teams to ensure projects are moving forward.
Engages with colleagues in departments across campus to advocate for divisional initiatives and seek resolution to a myriad of policy and administration issues.
Supports the AVC SSE on a myriad of student related initiatives and programs.
30% - Administrative Coordination & Event Support
Schedules and assists the AVC SSE to be accessible to staff, faculty, and students and provide administrative interface to set up and charge teams as appropriate.
Provides administrative interface, coordinating with various campus offices to support division wide committees, campus committees, and project teams.
Maintains a comprehensive database of initiatives and assignments, to include actions delegated.
Coordinates and provides support for special events, meetings, and unit wide activities.
Supports AVC SSE with administrative and clerical projects such as calendaring, travel coordination, and special projects.
30% - Policy, Analysis, and Communications
Researches, monitors and analyzes regulations, legislation, research literature and UC policies for impact on the organization or initiative.
Receives, reviews and conducts initial analysis of personnel actions, and supports division wide personnel programs.
Researches and analyzes processes and procedures, summarizes findings, policies and organizational structures in order to develop and / or implement changes and to provide consultative services to department administrators, partners and external stakeholders.
Performs ad hoc, analytical studies on a wide variety of policies, programs and issues which are complex in nature.
Proposes, leads and / or participates on policy and planning committees and working groups. Provides strategy development for organizational or research initiatives.
Develops proposals and recommendations to guide and support a broader strategic direction for the organization or initiative.
Coordinates efforts with a variety of external and internal contacts; researches organizational structures, policies and procedures and summarizes best practices in the field. Provides technical guidance and quality assessment.
Performs ad hoc, analytical studies on a wide variety of policies, programs and issues that are complex in nature.

REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
