Overview
The Associate Director of Student Engagement and Inclusion is responsible for managing all aspects of student engagement and DEI programming in Parkville, online, and across the campus center system. The Associate Director will create a safe and conducive environment for engaging, learning and persisting towards graduation. The Associate Director will manage student activities, student organizations, wellness programs, and overall student engagement. Through all of the responsibilities, the Associate Director will emphasize the number one priority, which is retention.
Position Accountabilities
Plan, implement, and manage programming designed to supplement the academic experience and engage students to ultimately increase retention and graduate rates. Work collaboratively on strategic efforts designed to enhance student development and learning, as well as advance a diverse student, staff and faculty environment. Ensure that the values of equity and inclusion are present in all student programming and development efforts to best support student engagement.
Advise Park Student Activities Board (PSAB) in various aspects including the event planning process, organizational development, and weekly advising. Assist and manage student organizations members and advisers through multiple communication channel, including virtual platforms, in person trainings, and various electronic communications.
Ensure a broad spectrum of social, cultural, educational, and global programs for Park students in Parkville, the Kansas City area, campus centers, and online students. These programs include New Student Orientation, Welcome Week, Homecoming, Student Activities Fair, Fright Night, Dr. Doris Howell Leadership Awards Ceremony, and the First Fifty Days program.
Assist and support advisers and members of student organizations through multiple communication channels include our online community, in person trainings, and successful navigation of university resources.
Collaborate with staff and faculty to empower student organizations to create a culture focused on inclusiveness and belonging, including development of new student organizations.
Oversee New Student Orientation and the First Year Experience Program including the FYE Mentors.
Serve as judicial officer for the student conduct code process
Provide direct support and referral, as appropriate, for students from underrepresented identities in higher education, included but not limited to, students who are first-generation, racial and ethnic heritage identities who constitute a minority, gender and sexual orientations, disabilities represented in the multicultural and intersecting identities students possess.
Requires Bachelor’s Degree. Master’ Degree in Student Personnel, Higher Education or related field is preferred.
Two years of experience with student retention and/or student program development experience at a college or university.
Knowledge of and experience implementing inclusive student engagement strategies.
Possess strong interpersonal communication skills, cross-cultural sensitivity, and ability to maintain confidentiality.
Experience with and appreciation of students, faculty, and staff with diverse backgrounds and cultures.
Ability to understand and work effectively in a complex environment with multiple campus centers, a traditional higher education setting, and online learning.
Experience and knowledge of health and wellness programs, intramural sports, and fitness facilities is preferred.
Basic computer skills, including ability to operate Microsoft office and different types of software, including Salesforce and Jenzabar CX.
Experience advising and/or supervising students is preferred.
Willingness and ability to work evening and weekend hours, as needed
