The Academic Advisor assists students in the development and accomplishment of meaningful education plans by advising students concerning their scholastic programs and academic progress, providing information on and referring students to University resources that can help individuals meet their academic goals and resolve their problems.

Characteristic Duties:

1. Advise students on a variety of academic issues: (65%)
   • Course planning, selection, and registration
   • Degree programs, selection of a major field of study, course schedules
   • Scholastic and probationary problems
   • College (or Department) policies and procedures
   • Initiate and maintain contact with students regarding academic progress
   • Provide general campus information
   • Refer students to appropriate campus resources e.g. financial aid, disability services, learning center, international center, student health and counseling services, and career services.
2. Evaluate student progress and: (10%)
   • Track and monitor students' progress by using established databases
   • Monitor and update student academic records for degree audits
   • Generate semester report to disperse to appropriate personnel
3. Assist to recruit prospective students: (10%)
   • Maintain liaison with personnel and students at other schools and in other divisions to coordinate activities and promote good relations
   • Contact prospective students invite for one-on-one program information meetings.
   • Attend recruitment functions.
4. Develop cohesive working relationship with faculty: (10%)
   • Assist faculty by providing information regarding college policies and academic rules
   • Monitor programs requirement changes and communicate to appropriate individuals and groups
   • Develop and maintain informational materials and newsletters for students and departments Maintain and update advising manual
5. Plan and coordinate programs to orient new students: (5%)
   • Coordinate programs to orient new students to all aspects of campus life
   • Conduct individual and/or group advising session with students
   • Develop and maintain informational materials and newsletters for students and departments. Maintain and update advising manual

Other duties as assigned.

Pay commensurate with education and experience.
Hiring Range: $36,254 - $43,000 Annually

University Title: ACADEMIC ADVISOR

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 1 year of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.

• One year of experience in counseling, teaching or admissions work is preferred.
• Provide excellent customer service
• Demonstrated excellent communication skills
• Demonstrated strong interpersonal skills, customer relations and ability to work effectively with diverse groups and individuals
