With knowledge of Syracuse Abroad's extensive portfolio of academic programs (curriculum, experiential learning opportunities, levels of student services & support, more), the Advisor guides students to select the overseas academic program in line with academic, professional, and personal goals (while also maintaining focus on broader unit yield and University retention goals). Using good judgment and sensitivity, the Advisor provides high levels of support to diverse student populations to meet challenges and opportunity of studying in different cultural contexts including playing a front-line role in fielding and managing complex student academic, mental and physical health, interpersonal, housing, and other issues that arise, managing confidential information in a professional manner, developing and maintaining more collaborative relationships with campus academic advisors and other University personnel, and developing, delivering pre-departure programming to ensure students are prepared for their aboard experience.
Responsible for student visa advising, admissions processing, and supporting student recruitment and engagement efforts on campus and nationally, which includes organizing and delivering information sessions and presentations, participation in presentations at conferences and study abroad fairs, liaising with partner institutions, etc. Advisor also manages Partner course approval and registration process: working with key contacts at the University Schools/Colleges (Associate Deans, department chairs, faculty, academic advisors) to obtain approval for World Partner Program courses. Serve as main point of contact for incoming exchange students/visiting researchers from partner universities.
