Summary Position The Advising Fellow provides support to the Office of Academic Advising as a full-time academic advisor in a temporary, limited-term role. The fellow supports Elon students through teaching and advising while developing their skills and philosophy as an academic advisor.
This position is set to begin July 1, 2023 and is a 1 + 1 fellowship. The fellow appointed to this temporary, 11-month position, will have an opportunity to renew for a second and final year.
Responsibilities of this position include:
Teach 1 section of ELN 1010: First Year Advising Seminar in the fall term. Students in this course will be the advisees of the fellow.
Teach ELN 1110: Exploring Majors Seminar in the spring term.
Support educational programs for exploratory students in their first and second year to advance the major decision-making process.
Weekly office hours in Residential Neighborhoods to be available for students with advising questions.
Programming in Residential Neighborhoods targeted on exploratory students and registration advising.
Carry an advising caseload of returning students who have not yet declared their major.
Provide general advising such as student graduation/course planning and drop/add support.
Provide support to incoming students in spring/summer for the First-Year Advising & Registration process.
Bi-weekly meetings with the Director of Academic Advising for professional development planning, goal setting, and performance evaluation.
Education Requirements Qualified candidates must have completed their graduate degree in a related field such as college student personnel/development, counseling, or higher education administration, OR be in the final semester of their related graduate degree program. Demonstrated first-year/advising delivery, program design, assessment, and diversity education experience is preferred. Candidates must be able to commit to the full 11-month appointment to begin July 1, 2023 (the first month will be dedicated to training).

Special Instructions to Applicants This is a paid 11-month fellowship of $17,600. Additional compensation includes university suite style apartment housing (required), a university meal plan, NACADA membership, paid state or regional conference, and free tickets to athletic and cultural events. Advising Fellow duties do not include administrator-on-call rotations.
