Primary Responsibility: The primary function of this position is to provide leadership to on-campus University Apartments and serve primarily in the roles of supervisor, educator, counselor, and administrator. Area Coordinators have the responsibility for developing and maintaining residential communities, which foster the growth and success of Mercer students. The Area Coordinator reports directly to the Associate Director of Housing and Residence life. This position will work closely with the Assistant Dean of Students in Atlanta and the office staff as part of the central leadership team.
Duties:
Adheres to University and department policies, procedures and regulations.
Handles the day-to-day operations of the University Apartments.
Selects, trains, supervises, and evaluates resident assistants.
Serves as the summer conference coordinator.
Oversees programming efforts within the apartments to offer students a diverse range of topics, both social and educational, at dates and times that will foster student participation and programming budget.
Maintains open lines of communication with Residence Life staff members.
Manages operational functions for residence halls such as building walkthroughs, damage assessment, room inspections, reporting and billing, maintenance requests, hall openings and closings and other administrative tasks.
Adjudicate disciplinary cases.
Assists with resident assignments, room changes, and room consolidation processes.
Serves as the primary person on-call for a campus of 184 residents.
Works closely with the Counseling and Psychological Services department, Campus Life, Mercer Police, and other campus resources.
Represents the Office of Housing and Residence Life on University committees as assigned and at University events.
Serves on departmental collaborative assignments (advising, in-services, service projects, committees, etc.).
Performs other duties as assigned by the Associate Director of Housing and Residence Life, and the Assistant Dean.
Qualifications: Master’s Degree in Higher Education Administration or related field required from an accredited college/university. Previous experience in Residence Life strongly desired. Must have strong written and verbal communication skills. A demonstrated commitment to community development within the campus environment is essential. Position requires the professional to live-in.
Compensation: This is a full-time, live-in, 12-month position with full university benefits (health, retirement, etc.). Annual salary is $36,000. An apartment with utilities, internet, basic cable. A University cell phone is provided.
