Summary of Duties:
Reporting directly to the Assistant Director for Student Engagement and Career Development, the Career Consultant will educate and advise Carson College of Business students on all aspects of career development. Career Consultants will be responsible for teaching three (3) sections of B_A 102 Exploring Careers in Business per year, developing and delivering workshops and presentations, and providing individual career coaching. The Career Consultant educates and advises students on topics such as the career/major decision-making process; development of cover letters, resumes/curriculum vitaes, and other job/internship application documents; job/internship search strategies; effective interviewing techniques; researching industries and companies for personal fit; effective networking strategies; online career resources and technologies; salary negotiations; graduate school application process; strategic involvement/participation in experiential learning opportunities that; and other career development topics.
The Career Consultant also supports the College's student development goals, which can include activities such as coordinating/delivering programming that enables students to fulfill their Career Amplifier requirements, assisting with employer recruiting activities, advising student business clubs, and coordinating special programs.
Required Qualifications:
Positions require a Bachelor's degree and three (3) years of professional work experience in student services or related education/experience. Experience leading or directing the work of others. A Master's degree in a related field may substitute for one (1) year of professional work experience. Any combination of relevant education and professional experience may be substituted for the educational requirement on a year-for-year basis.
Professional work experience in advising, mentoring, or supervising college students.
Strong written and verbal communication skills, including experience helping others improve their communication skills.
Work experiences that demonstrate strong public speaking skills and the development and delivery of engaging and informative presentations to students.
Work experiences that demonstrate strong interpersonal skills and work in a collaborative team environment.
Knowledge of, or experience with, HR recruitment platforms, career management systems and/or Internet resources for career development.
Ability and willingness to occasionally travel, work weekends, and work after regular business hours.
Preferred Qualifications:
Two (2) years professional experience in career advising/counseling/coaching in higher education.
Teaching experience at the post-secondary level.
Experience using Learning Management Systems to teach (Canvas, Blackboard, Google Classroom, etc.).
Experience using social media for professional networking and job searches.
Professional experience implementing and using career assessments to help guide students through the career decision-making process (O*Net, Focus2, Sokanu, MBTI, Strong, Holland Code assessments, StrengthsFinder, StrengthsQuest, Keirsey, DISC, etc.).
Experience using career recruitment databases and online career information systems.
Certification as a Career Development Facilitator, NACE Career Coach, or similar certificate.
