Position Summary:
The UCI DREAM Center stands with and serves those impacted by immigration policy through advancing systemic change, deconstructing oppressive policies, and fostering community. We work towards personal growth, collective healing, and visible change. This is achieved through providing scholarship opportunities, resources, and programs around the values of diversity, resilience, empowerment, advocacy and mentorship.
Provides the full range of assessment, counseling, and advice to targeted students, and makes referrals to organization and community resources. Works independently, receiving guidance on complicated problems/situations. Under the general direction of the DREAM Center director, the incumbent is responsible for the planning, development, implementation, and assessment of programs and services to engage and support undergraduate and graduate students impacted by immigration status as undocumented or students from mixed-status families at UCI. In addition, the assistant director is responsible for identifying and collaborating with on- and off- campus resources and partners to help undocumented students address and overcome obstacles to success and well-being. The assistant director is also responsible for assisting leadership, strategic planning, and direction for the DREAM Center, which will support undocumented UCI students by serving as a clearinghouse for resources and information as well as a safe space for building community.

1-3 years of experience working in a university setting or related program, activity, and leadership experience
Ability to successfully address and mediate conflicts in a tactful and neutral way.
Bachelor's degree in related area and / or equivalent experience / training.
Demonstrated knowledge of the theories and practice of counseling, learning, human and career development. Knowledge of research methodologies and research designs. Ability to collect, analyze, interpret, evaluate, and summarize data. Advanced content expertise and knowledge of research findings and best practices for undocumented students in: retention, academic achievement, student learning, collaborative learning and group work, identity and student development, multicultural education, and campus climate issues. Knowledge of trends and issues facing low-income and first-generation college, underrepresented, disadvantaged, physically challenged, and under prepared students in higher education. Knowledge of the methodologies used to enhance student achievement, such as collaborative teaching / learning models, strategies for effective counseling and peer mentoring, small group facilitation and training, coaching, mentoring, and advocacy. Dynamic leadership working with multicultural students and student organizations in a higher education setting; demonstrated success in promoting a strong sense of commitment to diversity and inclusion. Proven ability to work effectively with diverse populations including students from different cultural backgrounds as well as faculty, staff, parents, alumni, and community members. Excellent verbal and written communication skills. Ability to prepare documents, reports, publications, and brochures; experience coordinating web-based services. Knowledge and experience in researching, compiling and analyzing data, and generating reports. Finance and accounting experience in developing departmental budgets and tracking and projecting expenditures. Experience in working with donors and foundations on gift procurement, stewardship, and reporting. Demonstrated knowledge of the Undocumented student issues relevant to student programming. Experience in working with historically underrepresented and underserved communities, including: mediating, managing and resolving conflicts; facilitating group work; and training students and staff. Demonstrated knowledge of student development theory, multicultural identity development, leadership development, group dynamics, and management theory and proven ability to apply information in decision making and problem-solving situations
Preferred:
Master's degree preferred.
Knowledge in how to enhance students' intellectual and personal growth and development, including critical thinking, effective communication, self-appraisal, self-esteem, clarification of values, appropriate career choices, and leadership. Knowledge of federal, state, and local requirements to provide for access, health, confidentiality, and safety; legal and ethical issues governing the delivery of counseling services. Experience supervising full-time career and part-time student staff Knowledge of and experience in conflict management and intervention strategies. Knowledge and experience in analyzing complex situations and identifying solutions for problem-solving; skills and experience in developing and administering programs designed to meet the diverse needs of students.
Special Conditions Required:
Occasionally need to work special events on weekends and evenings Work with the DREAM Center and Immigrant Legal Services staff team to ensure areas of operations, events, and crisis management needs are met
