This position will be responsible for managing and expanding the new MSIS Accelerate program. MSIS Accelerate is a one quarter pre-program designed to offer foundational information systems proficiency coursework for MSIS candidates who have the aptitude and leadership skills to be successful in the core MSIS program but have limited exposure to complex technologies and frameworks. MSIS Accelerate is positioned as an education access initiative to encourage more diverse and domestic candidates to seek a career in technology leadership. The Associate Director will lead the future development and candidate outreach for this program initiative and will recruit and advise a new cohort of Accelerate students for spring quarter start every year.
Accelerate program elements include several high-touch experiential learning opportunities, including a domestic study tour academic immersion that will be developed and led by the Associate Director. The Associate Director will oversee all strategic planning, process and policy frameworks, relationship and community development, and budget management for Accelerate.
Additionally, this position will lead and implement diversity and inclusion initiatives in MSIS. The position will work to foster a climate that enhances the experience of students, alumni, and partners from marginalized populations. The Associate Director will lead strategic efforts that increase the number of underrepresented applicants and enrollees in MSIS. This position reports to the MSIS Director.
The Associate Director position requires high-level strategic planning, creativity, and problem solving as the program expands. Strong leadership capabilities for the study tour component are required including predeparture and on-site management of the student cohort (risk management, culture shock, group dynamics, logistics, faculty partnership).
The diversity, equity, and inclusion management aspects of the role require multi-cultural communication skills as well as effective partner engagement and management.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
MSIS Accelerate Program
•Responsible for managing and expanding the new MSIS Accelerate program. This requires working collaboratively with several university departments and external stakeholders – MSIS Advisory Board, diversity and inclusion offices and colleagues, faculty, and donors. •Establish pipeline for MSIS Accelerate prospective candidates – specifically focusing on local and domestic professionals in the Greater Seattle and PNW communities. •Lead a series of technology industry focused recruitment opportunities for Accelerate candidates – specifically partnering with the MSIS Advisory Board, industry partners, and local technology companies. •Develop relationships with area colleges/universities to conduct outreach activities geared toward recruiting students with quantitative, business, or non-traditional technical backgrounds. •Develop marketing, promotion, and communication plans to recruit prospective students. •Plan, manage, and execute Accelerate orientation and student on-boarding. •Lead domestic study tour for Accelerate students – plan and secure company visits, connect faculty to visit leaders and ensure visit experience aligns with MSIS coursework. Develop and oversee pre-departure sessions and communication. Travel with students and faculty – responsible for student affairs and well-being on the ground during the immersion experience. Responsible for arranging all trip logistics and transportation. Create and lead post study tour reflective session that engages donors. •Advise and mentor Accelerate students through the pre-program experience. •Track success of Accelerate students through their graduation of MSIS program. •Manage Accelerate budget – including revenue generation, study tour expenses, and operations. •Promote program success through multiple channels.
Education Access and Community Development
•Develop and lead initiatives that better equip and enable the MSIS program to recruit, admit, and support diverse students. Work in close collaboration with a variety of program stakeholders to create, manage, and oversee new opportunities that build community and provide resources for students and alumni from historically underrepresented backgrounds. •Expand MSIS initiatives by proactively reaching out to career centers, pipeline programs (such as GO-MAP), industry affinity groups, and both student and professional organizations focused on serving diverse communities to build relationships that will help MSIS meet its student enrollment and experiential learning goals. •Manage, plan, and execute long-standing events, including, but not limited to the Unplugged Sundays quarterly program. •Effectively make connections, provide communication, and create opportunities that link students, alumni, and industry partners for professional development, career focused workshops, and community activities specifically designed for underrepresented professionals in tech. •Evaluate MSIS diversity, equity, and inclusion initiatives to provide ongoing and annual feedback. Responsible for providing an annual report to the Director and MSIS Advisory Board. •Provide MSIS faculty with resources, connections, to help build diversity, equity, and inclusion frameworks and initiatives into their courses.
MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:
•Bachelor’s degree in business, social sciences, education or related field •Five years of experience in higher education – advising, admissions, project management, etc.
Equivalent education/experience will substitute for all minimum qualifications except when there are legal requirements, such as a license/certification/registration.
ADDITIONAL REQUIREMENTS:
•Excellent written and verbal communication skills and presentation/public speaking skills •Ability to effectively engage various stakeholders – including applicants, prospective students, current students, alumni, industry partners, and donors •Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to work independently and within a group •Working knowledge of social media
DESIRED:
•Masters degree desired •Extensive experience working with people from diverse backgrounds/cultures •Experience working with underrepresented populations •Graduate education administration experience preferred •Knowledge of CRM software and/or advanced database skills
