UW-IT is the central IT organization for the University of Washington, providing technology solutions to all three campuses, UW medical centers and global research operations. UW-IT collaborates with University partners to advance teaching, learning, innovation, and discovery at the UW.
Academic Services (AS) within UW-IT develops and provides technologies, learning spaces, classroom support and services that enhance teaching, learning and research at the UW. This division works with UW faculty and departments to use technology to improve learning outcomes and to advance the University’s academic mission. It collaborates with other UW units and external partners to share and integrate resources and services with a focus on creating efficiencies.
Academic Services also partners with central UW business offices and academic units to provide the core systems that enable student services and support the administrative functions necessary to deliver on the UW’s academic mission. This division also works to ensure that teaching, learning and collaborative technologies are usable by individuals with diverse abilities.
The Student Program supports UW enterprise student applications for registration, admissions, financial aid and more, including overseeing modernization efforts; and develops initiatives focused on delivering high value, shorter-term enhancements including the MyPlan online academic planning tool.
The purpose of this position is to provide application systems development and support for the applications that support the University of Washington central offices, colleges, departments and students.
REQUIREMENTS: Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Engineering or related field or experience Minimum of four years’ experience with COBOL and mainframe database management systems. Experience in building, integrating, and supporting software solutions and systems. Demonstrated ability to work in a professional manner in a fast-paced, highly collaborative team environment, across different application areas and with different client and technical teams. Proficient all aspects of the software development lifecycle. Demonstrated knowledge, or certification in, a wide range of enterprise architecture methodologies, technologies, and tools. Demonstrated excellent written and verbal communication and technical documentation skills and user interaction abilities. Demonstrated ability to quickly learn and apply new technologies and skills is essential. Demonstrated ability to work independently with minimal supervision An effective team player who enjoys collaboration with strong interpersonal skills.
DESIRED: Knowledge and experience with WFL, DMS II, CANDE, and COBOL85 in the Unisys MCP mainframe environment. Knowledge and skills in developing backend APIs and web services. Knowledge and experience with java, C#, .NET, XML, SQL/MySQL. Experience in enterprise-scale administrative systems at a major research university, particularly student administration systems Experience with Agile/Scrum development methodologies. Experience with software architecture patterns (e.g. MVC) Experience with large-scale procurement, payables and receivables systems
WORKING ENVIRONMENTAL CONDITIONS Work in an open office environment. This position involves responsibilities and occasional situations where work outside of standard business hours is required to respond to incidents or to meet critical deadlines. Hybrid or remote working environment possible.
