Requirements
The Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion will focus on the Georgetown University School of Medicine's (GUSOM) diversity, equity, inclusion, and anti-racism initiatives throughout the School. This position will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion School to set the strategic vision for the School of Medicine's efforts, and will actively engage with students, faculty, staff, and administration to promote a diverse, equitable, and inclusive environment for all members of the School of Medicine community. The core functions of the Assistant Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion are as follows:
Pathway Program Development and Management
Recruit, select, develop and implement pathway programs for K-12 and undergraduate students - supporting community outreach in the District of Columbia and nationally - targeting middle schools, high schools and other education programs that target diverse populations of students.
Develop communications and marketing strategy for promoting and branding pathway programs at the local and national level using social media platforms and robust college/university listservs that include HBCUs and HSIs.
Design and implement alumni networks for graduates of our pipeline programs in operation over the past 6 years.
Identify and draft internal and external grant and funding proposals to fund K-12 student pipeline outreach and partnership work to diversity students, faculty, staff on campus. Identify and draft grant proposals to support current pipeline work and to scale pipeline work in future years
Assemble recruitment and outreach budget for all K-12 pipeline work. Bring experience and aptitude in the management of budgets, personnel and facilities impacting all ODEI pathway programs with the demonstrated ability to use these skills effectively.
Recruit, select and train seasonal reviewers and summer associates to assist in the recruitment, selection and implementation of pathway programs, as well as engage medical students, staff and faculty to participate as mentors.
Conduct research, benchmarks and comprehensive analytics to support departmental strategies and set diversity metrics at the School of Medicine
Hire, supervise and manage full and part-time workers staffing up pathway program recruitment, selections and execution teams and provide feedback on performance.
Medical Student Support, Wellness & Advocacy
Advice, support and engage with various student affinity groups- including members of racial/ethnic groups, first generation college graduates, LGBTQ+ members, women of color, and all nontraditional medical students-through program development and implementation. Offer ongoing support to students as they coordinate cultural and signature events, such as Black History Month, Hispanic/Latinx Heritage Month, Asian and Pacific Islander Heritage Month, Pride Month, Women's History Month, I, Too, Am Georgetown.
Collaborate with the Assistant Dean for Medical Student Support and Wellbeing and Assistant Dean for Student Affairs to support the planning and implementation of First Year Orientation, including coordinating URiM events,leading student panels and participating in discussion groups
Recruit, onboard and facilitate the Council on Diversity Affairs (CODA) monthly meetings, as well as provide ongoing support to student proposals focused on addressing DEI issues on visibility, enrichment, and curriculum development.
Admissions DEI Outreach/Marketing & Recruitment Initiatives
Offer strategic insight andvision to promote DEI efforts and goals to the Office of Admissions & Financial Aid.
Participate in admissions related initiatives such as First Look, Second Look, Interview Day, New Student Med School Orientation
Bolster outreach initiatives that engage underrepresented and nontraditional students to learn, apply and matriculate to Georgetown School of Medicine.
School & University Leadership Advocacy
Serve on school and university- wide efforts that seek to cultivate a culture of belongingness and inclusion, including, but not limited to the Racial Justice Committee for Change (RJCC), Subcommittee on Assessment and Evaluation, Spaces & Places for Advocacy & Racial-Justice Knowledge (SPARK).
Advocate for DEI issues impacting students, staff and faculty.
Development, Planning & Implementation of Curriculum
Facilitation of interactive group discussions for M2 Cultural Competency Journeys ('CC3: Core Competencies of the Anti-Racist Physician.'
Review of course content in service on the Subcommittee on Evaluation & Assessment
Design anti-racist/anti-oppression and cutural humility trainings and curriculum for all pre-health pipeline students at GUSOM.
Work Interactions and Work Mode Designation
The Assistant Dean for DEI will report to the Senior Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity and Inclusion. The Assistant Dean for DEI will collaborate with the Offices of Admissions & Financial Aid, Student Affairs and Student Learning to foster an equitable and inclusive environment that aligns with GUSOM's goals of student success. Additionally, the Assistant Dean will work closely with Senior Associate Dean of Student Learning, the Georgetown Experimental Medical Studies Director & Learning Facilitator, the ODEI Strategy & Insight Manager, and undergraduate premedical advisors. Furthermore, the Assistant Dean will serve as the external liaison between local and national partners, such as DC Public Schools and charter school teachers, principals and representatives and pre-medical advisors from colleges/universities. This position will serve in a hybrid work modality.
Minimum of four (4) years of experience in the development and implementation of diversity and inclusion strategies and practices
Must have knowledge of project management, presentation, public speaking, training and facilitation methodologies; interpersonal communication and human relations theories/concepts; trends and issues related to diversity, and intercultural competency learning programs
Must be able to communicate effectively orally and in writing and establish cooperative working relationships with diverse populations in the course of performing assigned duties
Social media skills required including web-design and building communities on Twitter, Facebook and LinkedIn
Diversity training, certification, data certification preferred
