Job Summary: | As a member of the Center for the First-Year Experience (CFYE) Leadership Team, this position leads campus-wide initiatives to support inclusive Orientation, Welcome, and Transition programming for Freshmen, Transfer Students, and their Families. Key programs include SOAR, WI Welcome, and the Wisconsin Experience Seminar, each of which merge student development and logistical/operational components. This staff member will build and maintain relationships and serve as a key collaborator with internal and external partners to ensure that Orientation programs meet the developmental needs of incoming students as well as UW-Madison's overall goals and processes. The expected start date for this position is mid-April 2023. |
Responsibilities: | Assists in strategic planning, program direction, budget oversight, and staff supervision within a unit. Develops internal and external partnerships in support of and to raise awareness of program initiatives. - 25% Assists in the development of unit-focused strategic planning initiatives and unit objectives to ensure appropriate use of financial, administrative, and staffing resources and alignment with the strategic plan
- 20% Exercises supervisory authority, including hiring, transferring, suspending, promoting, managing conduct and performance, discharging, assigning, rewarding, disciplining, and/or approving hours worked of at least 2.0 full-time equivalent (FTE) employees
- 30% Serves as a unit liaison, collaborating with internal and external stakeholder groups to foster cross-unit partnership efforts regarding student affairs initiatives
- 10% Manages and oversees the budget
- 10% Lead overall assessment efforts within CFYE, serve on the Student Affairs Assessment Committee. Oversee program assessment for Orientation initiatives
- 5% Manage external sponsorship deliverables with WI Campus Marketing representative

Tasks: | - Supervision and support of professional staff Coordinators for SOAR, WI Welcome and WI Experience Seminar
- Lead and serve on a variety of University-wide committees and working groups
- Support and oversee program development and operations for Orientation, Transition, and Academic programs
- Support departmental professional development efforts for professional and student staff. Facilitate routine training sessions on a variety of topics, including Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion; Student Development, etc.
- Regular presence at Orientation, Welcome, and Transition programs and events
- Develop and monitor annual budget for direct CFYE programs
- Serve as member of CFYE Leadership Team to support unit-wide strategic planning and staffing initiatives
- Serve as instructor for a section of the Wisconsin Experience Seminar, initially and as needed

Qualifications: | Required knowledge, skills, and experiences: * Minimum 5 years of professional experience in Higher Ed, preferred at a large public institution * Demonstrated experience leading complex programs and processes directed toward college students * Experience supervising professional and/or student staff * Attitude of inclusion; collaborative nature * Strong written and verbal communication skills * Knowledge of student development, new student transition * Experience training and/or facilitating teams * Experience building partnerships between offices and/or institutions |

Salary: | Minimum $68,000 ANNUAL (12 months) Depending on Qualifications The expected starting salary range for this position is $68,000 up to $80,000 for experienced candidates. Actual pay will depend on experience and qualifications.
