The Career Services Specialist works in concert with the Dean of Students to provide administrative, programmatic, operational and communications support and assistance to meet the needs of the WJC Career Center. Responsibilities will include creating opportunities for professional career development for students. A dynamic, innovative, and equity-minded individual will provide leadership to career development strategy and services to students and alumni. This position will work with students, colleagues, and agencies to develop, implement, evaluate, and support comprehensive and proactive programming related to career and professional development. This role requires someone who is highly collaborative with a strategic mindset, attention to detail, and effective communication (written, presentation, and teaching) skills.
Essential Functions:
Develop and champion in-person and on-line workshops and webinars on various professional development topics including resume and cover letter writing, interviewing, job search skills, professional etiquette, social media, etc.
Develops partnerships with behavioral health agencies to promote WJC career fairs.
Build close working relationships with academic administrators and faculty to ensure students' professional development needs are met. Collaborate with departments for field-specific information related to resumes, licensure, fellowships, etc.
Collaborate with Institutional Research on overseeing an assessment plan that collects data on office services and resources.
Work with the Alumni Office to create opportunities for alumni support/mentorship of students.
Assist with the coordination and execution of WJC events such as orientation, speaker events, etc.
Assist with programming and services that support and maintain an environment that promotes inclusion, celebrates diversity, and raises cultural awareness.
Prepare marketing materials for events and services.
Partner with academic colleagues to develop and implement student Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) competencies through programs and presentations.
Create and manage annual success story collection and work with Marketing to include stories in college publications.

Qualifications:
A Master's in counseling, career services, higher education administration, student development, or related field and a minimum of 3-5 years of relevant professional experience or equivalent combination of education and experience required.
Exhibited knowledge of the career planning/counseling process; resume writing techniques; interview process, and job search strategies. Knowledge of career services for behavioral health professionals is a plus.
Experience in career advising or career services within a higher education or related setting along with excellent familiarity with career development-related technology and social media tools highly preferred.
Excellent written and oral communications skills.
Ability to utilize technology in the assessment and delivery of student programs is strongly preferred.
Strong, positive interpersonal skills, including the ability to work collaboratively.
Proficient in using social media such as LinkedIn, Twitter, etc.
Ability to work occasional nights and weekends.
