Under the general direction of the Department Chair and the Exec. Assistant Dean of the College of Letters and Science, provide leadership, oversight and management of the Department of Mathematics, an academic and research department. Responsible for all aspects of finance; business operations; staff and academic personnel; student affairs; information technology; teaching and instructional support; and teaching laboratory support; safety and liability; space use and facility maintenance; and administrative policy and procedures.
Participate in management meetings with Department Chair and other supervisors/managers to discuss department-wide issues, concerns, and needs.

QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
Three years or more of increasingly responsible management and department leadership experience.
Experience in budgeting, fiscal activities, and contract and grant administration.
Human resource management experience to recruit, train, evaluate, motivate, resolve/manage problems/conflicts, manage performance, and build an effective, service-oriented, team environment. Coaching skills to enhance staff contributions to the Department mission. Knowledge and skills to implement principles of performance management, multiculturalism and diversity.
Business management experience to manage and oversee a complex academic department in the areas of space and facility requirements, information technology, and teaching/research laboratory needs. Knowledge of office and/or business administration.
Experience using strategic planning, analytical and program evaluation skills to provide sound recommendations, continually examine systems and develop or revise to accommodate change requirements.
Experience analyzing complex information or problems to provide a sound basis for establishing priorities, selecting appropriate courses of action for pursuit or recommendation to others, and to resolve conflicts.
Knowledge of rules and regulations for extramural funding and purchasing with an understanding of accounting principles and practices, financial planning and analysis.
Preferred:
Knowledge of University Policy and Procedures in all areas pertinent to an academic department.
Quantitative and analytical skills to prepare statistical reports, budgets and projections and to interpret reports prepared by others.
Interpersonal and communication skills to share information with all levels of personnel and diverse populations within the Department, campus, and outside groups.
