Assistant Director of Academic Advising for the College of Arts and Science. Primary responsibilities include supervising academic advisors, planning professional development, liaising with other offices, coordinating office statistics and surveys, and overseeing admission events. The duties and responsibilities of the position allow for an Assistant Director to work remotely up to 40% of the time, when the job permits. Full-time work in Oxford, OH will be necessary at least 3 days a week. Remote work is a working arrangement that can be modified or revoked by Miami University at any time for any reason.
Duties/Physical Demands:
The Assistant Director of Academic Advising supervises a portion of the full time professional advisors; participates on search committees in the office, coordinates comprehensive professional development for the advising office; provides leadership to advising staff to respond to complex inquiries and guidance regarding academic policies, university procedures, and best practices; assists the Assistant Dean with department leadership tasks; liaises with stakeholders like: Admission, Career Services, Honors College, and Student Life. Academically advises assigned students including but not limited to interpreting campus policies and procedures, co-creating degree completion plans and articulating progress, setting and defining goals, identifying course equivalencies at domestic and international institutions, exploring academic programs and careers, referring to appropriate campus resources, and supporting student development and engagement. Supports students outside of the division who are interested in our pursuing majors or minors and drop-in advising. Assists in recruiting new and prospective first year and transfer students through individual advising appointments, small group information sessions, and large-scale divisional events; other duties as assigned by the Assistant Dean or Associate Director of Advising.

Master’s degree in Academic Advising, College Student Personnel, Student Affairs and Higher Education, (psychological) Counseling, or other closely related field; four years of fulltime advising experience at the college/university level, exhibiting moderate growth in role; may include supervision or mentoring of others.
Desired Qualifications:
Consideration may be given to candidates with more than 4 years of academic advising experience, supervisory experience, and experience in admission, diverse student development, career development, teaching a first-year experience course. Superior interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills; familiarity with Excel/Google Sheets, Banner, uAchieve, and internet applications; ability to work effectively and build relationships with a variety of stakeholders in different contexts, including faculty, staff, and students.
