The Engineering Inclusion and Diversity (EGRID) unit in the College of Engineering at Michigan State University (MSU) invites applications for a Director of Multicultural Initiatives. Candidates must have a master’s degree in engineering, education, student affairs or a closely related field at the time of appointment. EGRID exists to support the college’s core value of belonging and commitment to diversity, equity, and inclusion. They work toward creating a welcoming/inclusive campus community for students from underrepresented backgrounds by collaborating with faculty, staff and students to develop programs and resources that will support curricular and co-curricular success. This is a fixed-term position with an initial appointment of three years and is contingent upon satisfactory performance and continued funding. After the initial three-year appointment, there is a possibility this position could be converted to the continuing system.
EGRID is seeking a highly motivated individual who can work collaboratively with EGRID staff to help recruit and retain a diverse student body. Qualifications include strong leadership and interpersonal skills, excellent written and oral communications skills. The successful candidate should have at least three years of demonstrated success in implementing inclusive student programming that builds community and promotes a sense of belonging for students. EGRID’s goal is to prepare students to succeed academically and professionally.
The Director of Multicultural Initiatives will provide overall direction and management of programming, conduct some programming, assist with developing proposals for revenue generation, prepare reports, teach and facilitate orientation classes and support registered student organizations. The successful candidate will be expected to collaborate with other program offices in engineering and at the university, as well as, faculty, staff, students, university administrators and external business/corporate representatives to build linkages and support for multicultural initiatives.
