Position Summary
The Office of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education (APUE) and Dean of Undergraduate Studies oversees undergraduate education and facilitates institutional wide initiatives focused on enhancing undergraduate learning and student success. This position will serve as part of the Associate Provost for Undergraduate Education University Advising unit. As part of MSU’s Strategic Plan for Student Success, we envision a University Advising community that is appropriately structured and adequately resourced to equitably meet the diversity of our students’ needs, to help students develop their purposes and passions, to support the migration of students between majors/minors and colleges at MSU, and to meet MSU’s strategic goal of an 86% graduation rate with no opportunity gaps by 2030. OVERVIEW OF THE ROLE
The Associate Director will exercise leadership in advising assessment, evaluation, and technology to ensure the Advising Unit is meeting its goals, equitably supporting students, and that advisors have the technology they need to excel in their work. The Associate Director provides coordination and expertise in designing and implementing assessment and evaluation projects including creation of unit goals, student learning, programmatic, and advisor outcomes, and assessment plans and rubrics. The Associate Director also manages advisor technology for the institution and oversees technology training and onboarding for new advisors.
SPECIFIC RESPONSIBILITIES
Lead the work to design and implement assessment plans in the APUE University Advising Unit through development of measurable program goals and outcomes, creation of rubrics, and selection of appropriate assessment strategies
Collaborate with APUE and assessment leads across the institution to create a cohesive culture of assessment across campus and identify opportunities for alignment and areas for increased impact
Lead the work of the Assessment and Metrics workgroup (comprised of advisors across campus)
Provide guidance and mentoring to advising units across the institution in designing and implementing advising based assessments
Facilitate the design and implementation of advising assessment plans including advising evaluation as developed by APUE Advising leadership, University Advising Leadership and Fellows, and the APUE data and assessment team
Promote the use of data-informed decision-making at the unit, division, and institutional levels
Facilitate the use of assessment findings by disseminating findings to unit, divisional, and institutional constituencies including the contributions of advising toward student learning, retention, and success
Manage advising technology (Advising and Tutoring appointment system, Campus Solutions, etc.) including overseeing training and user onboarding, as well as serving as point of contact for enhancements and troubleshooting
Serve as a liaison to Registrar's Office, SIS Transition and Operation team, and APUE Data Analytics Team on advising related technology (ESAF, SIG, SISCS) and data reports
Provide workshops and professional development opportunities related to advising technology and assessment
The salary for this position will range from $75,000-$85,000 per year.
Unit Specific Education/Experience/Skills
Knowledge equivalent to that which normally would be acquired by completing a four-year college degree program in Accounting, Business, Human Resources or a field related to the area of employment; three to five years of related and progressively more responsible or expansive experience in assessment and evaluation including designing outcomes and assessment plans, knowledge of theories and practice related to student success, retention, and graduation, demonstrated commitment to principles of equity in assessment and/or culturally responsive assessment practices, finance, budget development and administration and application of information systems and technology; or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Desired Qualifications
Master's degree in Higher Education, Student Affairs or a related field
Five years of experience with advising in a higher education institution
Strong analytic, interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to work with detailed information with attention to accuracy
Ability to support data-informed decision making for senior leaders
Ability to work collaboratively and constructively with people at multiple levels and with diverse perspectives
Experience designing training and professional development opportunities for colleagues
Experience with Campus Solutions
