The Assistant Dean, Academic Advising Strategy Director has responsibility for the leadership, implementation, and management of all student affairs and academic advising functions within the Graduate Programs. The Graduate Programs contain approximately 2,000 degree seeking students engaging in study and co-curricular opportunities with the Olin Business School. Student affairs includes all programmatic activities from recruitment, to orientation, co-curricular opportunities such as student organizations and mentoring, as well as leadership development. Academic affairs includes academic advising, maintaining consistent policies and procedures, and tracking studentsâ™ degree progress. Three FTEs report directly to this position; this position oversees and manages the work product of 15 FTEs. This position is one of two senior leaders reporting directly to the Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Programs.
Primary Duties & Responsibilities
Directs academic advising processes and procedures for all graduate programs for degree seeking candidates. Effectively communicates expectations and processes to a total of three Associate Directors and twelve academic advisors. Academic processes includes, but is not limited to, registration, pre-requisite compliance, wait list monitoring, pass/fail and audit review, and incomplete grade compliance. Serves as an academic advisor to an assigned cohort of students.
Works in partnership with the Associate Dean to create strategic objectives, measures of success, and comprehensive programming for student affairs activities such as orientation, global travel programs, student engagement, programming for student development, yield events, and advising student organizations. Ensures that student affairs programming aligns with curriculum initiatives.
Collaborates with Associate Dean in managing the Graduate Programs through regular review of strategic plan goals and ensuring continual progress towards meeting those goals. Acts with careful evaluation of existing Graduate Programs programming in order to innovate and adapt curriculum, programming, global and study abroad offerings, and experiential learning opportunities.
Serves as the Deputy Academic Integrity Officer for Graduate Programs. Serves as investigation hearing officer for potential academic integrity matters for Graduate Programs.
Performs other duties as assigned including serving as academic advisor to assigned cohort of students, representing the Graduate Programs campus wide in place of the Associate Dean and Director of Graduate Programs, including leading the office and having decision making authority for graduate matters in the Associate Deanâ™s absence.
Masterâ™s degree in higher education administration or related field.
Terminal degree in higher education, business, or in a related field.
Extensive experience with advising, mentoring and working with college students.
Demonstrated success in designing leadership opportunities and working with student groups/related organizations.
Extensive track record of program development, initiatives and execution.
Demonstrated success in curriculum development and delivery.
Leadership in school and university wide initiatives.
Commitment to designing and delivering excellent academic and student affairs.
Strong interpersonal skills.
Excellent written and oral communication skills.
Willingness to work flexible hours, including evenings and weekends as necessary.
Willingness to travel up to 15% of time both domestically and internationally.
Masterâ™s degree in related field and three years related experience or Bachelorâ™s degree in related field and eight years related experience.
$63,900.00 - $109,100.00 / AnnuallyThe salary range reflects base salaries paid for positions in a given job grade across the University. Individual rates within the range will be determined by factors including one's qualifications and performance, equity with others in the department, market rates for positions within the same grade and department budget.
