POSITION OVERVIEW
The Student Athletics Trainer will enter the Division at a time of growth and creative energy under the Vice President for Enrollment Management and Student Affairs. The Division provides an array of intellectual and experiential opportunities for students to become engaged citizens through its various departments which support enrollment and persistence, student organizations, social events, athletics, theatrical productions, community and service learning opportunities, as well as student support services that enhance their collegiate experience.
Reporting directly to the Director of Athletics, the Head Athletic Trainer's responsibilities include the CUNY Title Overview, but are not limited to the following:
Act as a liaison between the Department, Student Health Services and the Team Physician.
Coordinate drug and substance abuse education seminars for student-athletes.
Cover all athletics home events as head athletic trainer, including night and weekend events. Cover practices and away contests as deemed appropriate.
Ensure compliance with all College, Conference, and NCAA rules and regulations related to medical care for student-athletes.
Follow the NATA Code of Ethics.
Represent the mission, core values and professionalism of John Jay Athletics as well as promote of John Jay Athletics.
Oversee all necessary documentation, including processing insurance claims for all medical bills and expenses for each injury, maintaining up to date records for each student-athlete injury and preparing an annual injury report at the conclusion of each academic year.
Remain current on all national requirements for certifications and maintaining continuing education of Athletic Trainer certification.
Train department staff and coaches on policies and procedures..
Candidates will be required to provide proof of being fully vaccinated against COVID-19 upon commencing employment. Exemption (medical or religious) requests to this requirement will be considered in accordance with applicable law. Being fully vaccinated is defined for this purpose as being at least two weeks past their final dose of an authorized COVID-19 vaccine regimen. Final candidates must be fully vaccinated as of their first day of employment.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor's Degree and four years' related experience required as well as National Athletic Trainers Association certification.
OTHER QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor degree in athletic training or related field, Master's degree preferred
4-5 years??? experience in sports information related field
NATA certification
NYS Certification or ability to gain certification within the first year of employment
American Red Cross CPR/FA instructor preferred
Valid driver's license required. License must meet insurance company rules and
regulations for driving underwriting criteria
Strong presentation and interpersonal skills
CUNY TITLE OVERVIEW
Develops, coordinates and administers a comprehensive training and sports medicine program for intercollegiate sports and provides related professional and administrative services.
Develops and maintains a program of preventive physical care for student-athletes; and coordinates physical examination screenings
Supervises treatment and referral of injuries and interfaces directly with medical personnel in the treatment of such athletes; coordinates rehabilitation programs; may administer related insurance program(s)
Determines and ensures the acquisition of safety equipment and supplies applicable to each intercollegiate sport
Supervises maintenance of statistical records of team injuries and medical data
Assists coaches in planning and instructing physical training programs for athletes.
Plans and schedules the purchasing of all sports medical program supplies and equipment within allocated budget parameters
Recruits, instructs, supervises and reviews the performance of training staff
Performs related duties as assigned.
