SA 2 (University of Chicago) - July 2nd - August 12th
The Organization
At Thrive Scholars, our goal is to see talented economically disadvantaged BIPOC students develop inter-generational wealth and financial security, and become the diverse corporate, civic, and academic leaders our country so desperately needs.
Our comprehensive, data-driven, high-touch program model focuses on the key inflection points that can be the difference between just graduating from any college, and graduating from a top college with the grades, degree, career skills, and network needed to thrive in any career. Over our six-year program, Scholars benefit from admissions and intensive academic preparation before college and a comprehensive set of academic, personal, social-emotional, financial, and career supports throughout college.
The Program
As rising high-school seniors, and rising college first-years, students attend our six-week Summer Academy. At its core, Summer Academy (SA) is an academic boot camp where students learn the quantitative and writing skills they need to excel in college and in their preferred majors, with additional time devoted to personal and professional development topics. Summer Academy is a residential program held on the campuses of Amherst College and the University of Chicago. This year, we will serve 500+ students combined at both sites.
The Position
We are seeking multiple TAs to assist in teaching courses of approximately 20-25 students, at Amherst College and University of Chicago, focused on helping our students further develop the skills they will need to excel in courses at a selective college. The course will meet between 12-15 hours per week, and will include a combination of professor-led instruction and opportunities for students to engage in hands-on and collaborative work. Scholars are required to attend all classes and one office hour session a week, with office hours being held twice per week. TAs will be required to take attendance for assigned courses and office hours, as well as follow up with any Scholar who has missed an office hours session for the week.
TAs are expected to be present for the entirety of the course time each day, and available for a minimum of 2 hours of office hours during the week. TAs will be paired with Professors based on skill set and need. TAs will also be expected to participate in an orientation before the program begins.
Salary: TAs will be paid between $4.5K (for undergraduate students) and $6K (for graduate students) for the Summer.
Housing: Room and board will be provided, and covered by Thrive Scholars, for non-local TAs.
