As a part of the country's oldest Catholic and Jesuit university, the Center for Social Justice (CSJ) animates the University's Jesuit values and mission through its work in research, teaching, and service. A component of the work includes that of CSJ's signature, mission-based programs, such as those that use the pedagogy of community-centered, social justice immersion and experiential learning, including the direct service work of CSJ's EngageDC and signature programs.
The DC Schools Project (DCSP) is one of our outreach programs and advocacy initiatives with the immigrant community and includes several educational programs employing 12-16 part-time university students who coordinate approximately 120 university student volunteers serving more than 120 children and youth and 60 adults of low-income, working class, immigrant backgrounds who need support in English literacy skills. Educational programs include one-on-one tutoring, adult ELL classes, after school programs, and family literacy initiatives.
Job Overview
The Program Coordinator for DC Schools Project collaborates with other CSJ team members and campus units to provide Georgetown students structured opportunities during the summer months, including a program related to immigration and the ESL population. They participate in CSJ activities, including staff meetings, committees and cross-program collaborations. The Program Coordinator
To meet programming quality for Georgetown undergraduates and community youth and adults, activities occur four to six days a week, often in the evening hours, during the academic year.
Work Interactions
Reporting to the Assistant Director for Newcomer and Immigrant Community Engagement, who oversees all of the DC Schools Project, the Program Coordinator provides day-to-day management to the DC Schools Project program site implementation and student staff support and development.
As well, they provide additional support for summer programming, with deep interactions among Georgetown students and community partners; and support coordination of the CSJ summer community and related programming.
The Program Coordinator works with undergraduate students, graduate students, fellow CSJ team members, staff in related positions within the Division of Student Affairs; with Georgetown faculty, immigrant youth and families; and with numerous teachers, principals, and school and community center administrators within the Washington, DC youth educational ecosystem.
Qualifications
Bachelor's degree
At least 2 years of experience in community-based program management, with experience centering racial and economic equity
Interest and experience in immigrant public policy and laws
Strong organizational, communication, interpersonal, and administrative skills - and a willingness to grow in those areas
Willingness and availability for activities that occur four to six days a week, often in the evening hours, during the academic year
Preferred qualifications
Experience working with college students and volunteers
Familiarity with university culture
Experience in classroom instruction or broader K-12 education spaces
Work experience working in and with diverse communities
Experience with community organizing and advocacy
Sponsored Project Management
As the designated Department Financial Manager for Sponsored Project, the Program Coordinator is responsible for financial management of the sponsored project to ensure compliance with sponsor's requirements and University's policies and procedures. Within 30 days after the close of the month (generally the 8th business day after the end of the month), the duties to be performed include but are not limited to:
Review and reconcile expenses on the Center Status Reports to ensure that the expenses are a) allowable by the sponsor for the project, b) allocable to the project, c) reasonable and necessary, d) supported by required documents, and e) within the budgeted amounts;
Review salary distributions to ensure that they reasonably reflect employees' level of effort on project. Review associated fringe benefits for accuracy;
Review the commitments of key personnel, to ensure the costs reasonably reflect the level of effort committed to the sponsors as part of proposal and notify OSP/OSR of significant variances;
Review the calculation of indirect cost recovery to ensure accuracy;
Process all corrections and adjustments within 90 days of when the charge initially posts to the financial system (posted date for non-payroll and pay period end date for payroll transactions) and ensure corrections and adjustments are reviewed and approved according to the signature authority policy and supported by appropriate documents;
Complete the Financial Status Report (FSR) worksheets timely and accurately; and
Ensure that payments to subrecipients are reviewed and processed in a timely manner.
Work Mode: Hybrid. Please note that work mode designations are regularly reviewed in order to meet the evolving needs of the University.
