POSITION DETAILS
Hunter College seeks a dynamic and inventive Assistant Director to direct programming and daily operations of our Language Learning Center. The Hunter College Leona and Marcy ChaninLanguage Center supports opportunities fortotal language immersion inChinese, French, German, Hebrew, Italian, Japanese, Polish, Russian and Spanish.Equipped witha large multimedia facility/lecture hall, conference room, language lab, and multimedia classroom, the Center is designed so that students can practice foreign language through films, audio and video programs, and interactive computer language-applications. The Language Center Managerreports to the Associate Provost for Academic Affairs.
The Language CenterAssistant Directorwill expand Language Center services to meet the needs of Hunter College students as they navigate the culturally rich and diverse landscape of New York City. The Language CenterAssistant Directorwill:
Contribute to the planning and execution of Language Center learning goals and lead the assessment of Language Center staff, tutors, and programs while also evaluating the language learning needs of Hunter College students.
Develop and support programming, in collaboration with our foreign language faculty and departments that promote learning through conversation.
Lead the coordination of student cultural experiences ( i.e. film festivals, international evenings, performances, cooking demonstrations, art exhibitions, and multi-lingual theatrical works).
Expand Center programming to include activities that reflect students??? disciplinary interests, in consultation with Associate Provost for Academic Affairs.
Reassess the ways that technology can be used to support foreign language teaching and learning by providing students with innovative tools for language practice (i.e. gamification, interactive/web-based courses, and mobile apps).
Supervise a part-time, administrative staff.
Execute a robust program of Language Center outreach and marketing to students at Hunter???s main campus and satellite facilities.
Oversee the Language Center website resources.
Perform other related duties and tasks as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS
Bachelor???s degree and six years??? related experience required.
Preferred QUALIFICATIONS
Experience with:
Training, recruiting, and assessment of undergraduate and graduate student tutors with a diversity of backgrounds and from a variety of majors and countries of origin.
Marketing and outreach to students identified using EAB Navigate or a similar online tool for connecting students to skill-building resources.
Master???s or Doctoral degree in a Foreign Language or Foreign Language Education with fluency inat least one language supported by the Center in addition to English (graduate degree can subsitute for some of the experiance requirements).
Strong organizational skills with the ability to establish priorities, meet deadlines and manage multiple demands and/or projects
Excellent verbal, written, and interpersonal communication skills, a strong customer service orientation and attention to details are essential
Ability to work effectively with all levels of faculty, staff, and students
Vaccine Requirement:
