Wittenberg University is seeking a Mock Trial Coach & Pre-Law Advisor. Reporting to the Provost, this individual will facilitate the development of and coach Wittenberg's Mock Trial team, advise students in the Pre-Law program, develop and maintain relationships with law school partners, and teach relevant undergraduate courses. This is a part-time, 10-month, exempt-level, administrative position.
Essential functions include but are not limited to:
Head Mock Trial Coach
Recruit, retain, and develop students to compete on Wittenberg's Mock Trial Team.
Collaborate with the Office of Admission for both on- and off-campus new student recruitment-related activities for Mock Trial and Pre-Law, including Open Houses, Accepted Student Days, and high school recruitment events.
Coordinate and maintain Wittenberg's registration and status with the American Mock Trial Association.
Coordinate a competition and practice schedule during the fall semester and to register for the regional tournament (and all other postseason tournaments for which the team qualifies).
Teach up to 6 credits annually of relevant undergraduate coursework.
Solicit and host high school mock trial events on Wittenberg's campus as appropriate.
Collaborate with the Office of Student Development to assure student organization compliance.
Develop, oversee, and monitor all budgeting, operational, and fundraising accounts. Adhere to university procedures related to purchasing and travel expenditures.
Pre-Law Advisor
Collaborate with relevant academic departments to oversee the Pre-Law program and/or Pre-Law minor.
Advise and support students who have declared Pre-Law and/or have shown interest in law school admission.
Interface with law schools to develop admission pathways for Wittenberg students.
Perform other relevant duties as assigned such as special projects, programs, developmental activities, etc.
Job Requirements:
Master's degree required
J.D. or other graduate degree in a law-related field is preferred.
1-3 years experience required.
An understanding of mock trial competitions and the American Mock Trial Association operations is required.
Experience teaching college-level courses is preferred.
Travel and some evening and weekend work are required.
A valid driver's license is required; must meet required insurance qualifications found in Wittenberg Motor Pool policies and procedures. If license is from out of state, successful candidate will need to obtain a valid Ohio driver's license within 30 days of hire date.
